I think we could do a lot worse than Kerley as the #2. Is Hill expected to fully recovered from his injury? What I mean is - is it possible he is a little slower this year? That would be pretty terrible for a guy whose claim to fame is his 40 time/size combo. I probably come off the wrong way on Hill because I'm so down on him but I'd love nothing more than for him to suddenly become the beast some people believe he can be.
Hill and all the other vets on the cusp better come to camp hungry and ready to show out. Otherwise, they are going to find themselves on the street. Idzik wasn't kidding when he said he was bringing in competition at every position. I wouldn't be surprised if he brings in another vet as well.
If Saunders is such a midget, why is he the same height as Kerley....5'9" ...I say let him compete vs. Hill and may the best WR win..Hill is deservedly on the hot seat
Hill is on the hot seat says who? You? And all the other brainiacs on this board? Lol Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Agreed...coming off an injury and being a pick from the previous regime...he is pretty much done. Right now, unless it is a home opener at Metlife vs. the Bills, this guy has not shown us much and has hands of stone..
In terms of who plays WR #2, it's really not a huge deal. Decker will obviously be the #1 receiving target, but Amaro will probably be #2 and Cumberland might be #3. Aside from that, we will be a run heavy offense so when you think about it our #2 WR will probably be our #5 offensive option. There are a lot of ways to put up yards.
Jet's current depth chart at WR and the realities there: #1 WR - Eric Decker (Idzik signing) #2 WR - competition among Jeremy Kerley (Tanny pick), David Nelson (Idzik signing), Stephen Hill (Tanny pick), Shaq Evans (Idzik pick), Jacoby Ford (Idzik signing), Greg Salas (Idzik signing) Slot WR - competition among Jace Amaro (Idzik pick), Jeremy Kerley (Tanny pick, if Amaro is not ready and Kerley loses #2 WR competition), Jalen Saunders (Idzik pick) #4 WR - top loser of #2 WR unless Kerley is slot WR, then it is the 3rd guy at #2 WR #5 WR - competition among losers at #2 WR plus Jalen Saunders #6 WR - special teams slot, most likely Jalen Saunders if he didn't win #5 or Jacoby Ford if he didn't make #2, #4 or #5 Amaro is listed as a slot WR because that's where his snaps are mostly going to come. He's not going to be on the field as an inline TE most of the time unless the Jets want to add a significant bust factor to his draft pick, which I highly doubt they do. The most likely outcome at this point given what we know about the talent on the Jets roster is that Decker will be #1, Kerley will be #2, Amaro will be in the slot, Nelson will be #4 and whoever can contribute the most on special teams will be #5 and #6. The guys who the Jets can put on the practice squad are all the draftees from this year. Everybody else is out of eligibility. Of course you have to go through waivers to get a guy to the PS and I very much doubt the Jets will let Saunders go through the process after spending a high 4th round pick on him. They probably won't let Evans go through either but you never know. So my guess would be that Stephen Hill and Greg Salas are very low chances to make the squad this year. Both of them are going to have to have excellent camps to get into the conversation. Hill's excellent camp would lock down a slot for him. Salas excellent camp would just give him a shot. The tiering above if logically extrapolated suggests: Eric Decker Jeremy Kerley Jace Amaro David Nelson (high bubble/No PS) Jalen Saunders (high bubble/PS possible) Jacoby Ford (high bubble/No PS) Stephen Hill (low bubble/No PS) Shaq Evans (low bubble/PS possible) Greg Salas (low bubble/No PS) Vidal Hazelton (low bubble/No PS) If you want to remove Amaro from the list because he's a TE feel free to do so but he's going to take snaps from the slot receivers more than from Jeff Cumberland and so leaving him out of the WR depth chart seems to be a bad idea. The Jets aren't going to keep anybody to sit around on their ass not doing anything.
And so I did. PS for him unless he blows the roof off of the place in camp, even just by being a dynamic edge player on special teams. I also kind of blew by Hazelton, since I don't see him as a likely contender for #2 WR and the #4 through #6 slots will be people who either pushed hard at #2 or have great special teams utility.
The competition at WR and CB this year is going to be something to watch. A cage fight with 10+ guys in the cage in each case.
I love how young of a team we are. Defensive Line: Young. Secondary: Young. QB: Young. WR: Young. TE: Young. Our oldest units are LB, OL, and RB. By 2015 we will probably be the youngest team in the league by far since we will probably have transitioned to younger LB's and RB's as well.
Yeah he is, I'm not sure George is the heir apparent but he has a year to prove it if he is. My guess is we will have an LB heavy draft next year.
Doesn't matter. Jets won't sign a high-profile LB in free agency unless he wants to play for the Jets enough to take a discount the way Decker did. Even then they'll probably want to get guys they can control through the rookie deal and develop as they see best. This really works. You just have to have the patience to get through the first few years as the system is setup.
Not a concise one, I'll see what I see. At the moment I think Maualuga looks like the top option so I don't think it's going to be a great ILB FA class.
