Im thrilled with the first 2 rounds..after that its a little up and down but I dont get paid to be a scout so these guys see things that I dont see.

I remember a few years ago reallllly wanting Terrance Ganaway and Jordan White in the late rounds. We got em both and they're both out of the NFL.

    So who knows.

I strongly believe that as fans we only have the right to even form an opinion about the first round pick, and maybe the second rounder. We're sitting at home and at most have seen limited game film on each pick, and would be lying if we said we were familiar with EVERY draftable player. On the other hand, NFL teams have dozens upon dozens of people whose job is to spend hours studying film of EACH player, along with acquiring extensive background knowledge and trying to project their skill sets into the next level. We can criticize whether or not the team addressed a glaring need (which we have with each pick so far) but attempting to judge a team for selecting an individual who you have limited knowledge of at most (in many cases we have no knowledge at all) is like me coming into your workplace and telling you that you're doing everything wrong. Some people will try to argue this, boasting how much time they've dedicated to scouting these players. No matter how much you think you've done, the team has done much, much more. All we can do as fans is wait and see how each pick develops, and then make a judgement on the pick in several years.

With no disrespect to anyone, I think the notion of many of these selections being head scratchers is more a function of the people not knowing anything about the players as opposed to an indictment on the capability of the players. Many of us have never heard of these guys because we don't have exposure into the inner details of the thousand of potential college e recruits.

The Jets did fine in this draft. I think they got 5 solid day 1 players, added depth in key positions and took a few boom or bust picks in the later rounds that were at a low cost!

Overall I would say our draft was a 8/10

What the Jets tried to do was to get players who played hard on the field and were team leaders. They tried to get people who look for contact instead of shying away from it. They overloaded at WR to setup multiple competitions in camp. They overloaded at CB to find the 2nd CB. They stocked the special teams for seasons to come.

It was a really good draft given what the Jets came in trying to do.

If they'd traded up for Marqise Lee they would have turned the WR competition into a joke.

Tough to be underwhelmed before TC even starts, he addressed some of the holes we needed addressed so that's really all you can ask for. A lot of people have guys they really like going into the draft me included but sometimes you have to trust your scouting staff and GM.

Honestly I had a blast watching the draft ... and outside of McDougle, whom it seems a lot of analysts said went too early, but prefaced that by saying he is a baller and a good addition to the team, I thought the Jets were pulling down high marks all three days. Pretty sure I saw the Jets bag an A grade on NFL Network.

Now an A grade immediately after the draft doesn't mean shit ... just like a D grade immediately after the draft doesn't mean shit. Let em get at it and play a bit first.

How anyone can complain about anything but the position being drafted is beyond me... We are not scouts and the big boards you read online are not the big boards for NFL teams and I bet no one has seen the majority of our picks play so just relax

One of the smartest most logical and cogent posts I've ever read on TGG.

    Well done Sir.

And 7 out of 10 never make it beyond a couple of years anyway so what does any of it matter?

I can understand fans thinking this was a 'meh' draft, I too was scratching my head at some of the mid-round picks (except Dozier). I've consoled myself with the following:

    (i) The scouting department have seen much more of the drafted players than I have (my 'knowledge': some live games, more youtube clips, even more press analysis). Limited knowledge means that you over-focus on some players and not others - I thought Montario Hardesty was going to tear up the NFL.

(ii) Drafting bodies generates competition. Two positive results can come out of this, particularly amongst the WR's - the new guys can hit the roster hard and play, or the new guys light a fire under the existing underachievers and make them up their game. The likes of Stephen Hill now have to fight for a place on the team.

(iii) Post draft, I thought most of the Seahawks picks for 2011-2013 were shit - AKA "what the fuck do I know". Our 2014 draft had the same mentality

(iv) Value is relative. If you think there's a chance your guy will leave the board in the next 31 picks you pull the trigger. I *think* Dexter McDougle would have been available in Round 4. Can I prove it? Hell, no.

    (v) The guys seem to be high character picks. No "poor motor" or "off field issues" concerns here. Idzik doesn't seem to be the type to gamble on the Purifoy's or the Lyerla's - even as UDFAs.

I'm just really glad that the Jets drafts the last two seasons have had the feeling of "here come the Martians". That tells me that we're not stuck in the same rut we've been in since 2001 or so. We're not doing the same things and expecting better results.

Real change requires that you actually change.

Hmm it's nothing like someone coming into your workplace and telling you that you're doing everything wrong. The equivalent of that would be me walking into the Jets draft war room right after Idzik drafted McDougle, and saying "what the fuck was that?". You are giving TGG and their posters way too much credit. What's being done here is exactly as it appears, fans expressing opinions on a message board; nothing more and nothing less. A more appropriate comparison, would be saying it's like someone going to see a movie then posting on a message board thread about said movie that the director did everything wrong. Does this moviegoer not have the "right" to express this opinion since he did not go to film school? Maybe we should just shut the draft board down immediately after the end of the 2nd round to reopen after the season ends, since fans opinions are moot beyond that point.

The fact is that this is a crap-shoot, even for the guys who get paid to evaluate talent for a living. If it's a crap-shoot for a guy with 30 years of playing, coaching, and FO experience who has been analyzing every piece of film, conducting interviews, doing background checks, attending the combine, pro days, and private workouts, think about how stupid it is for a guy who does none of that to give a meaningful opinion on the quality of the Jets draft. This thread sucks, end of story.

It depends what 7 out of 10 it is. If it our first 3 picks don't last then that a problem.

I'll determine if I like the draft around the end of August, with the right to change opinion until 2016.
