serious question. Might we not draft a WR? Is the FO thinking that between Nelson, Ford and Hill one of them will step up....then go a lot of 2 TE and of course a lot of Ivory and CJ?
not a cimini fan but.... "His character is top-notch. He attended every practice and game last season after his surgery, prompting the school to create an award in his honor -- the Dexter McDougle Ultimate Team Player Award. "
Amaro is more of a WR than a TE. He will be in the slot most of the time or split out on the LOS. He is the big receiving threat the Jets were going to land in this draft. Right now the Jets could use Decker at X, Nelson/Kerley at Z and Amaro as the slot. In the spread they could have Decker at X, Amaro split out on the other side and Nelson at Z with Kerley in the slot opposite him.
What I ask myself when I hear that he started out the season playing well but had his season cut short because of a shoulder injury is whose to say he would have continued to play well? It's not like he was a well known player with an extensive body of work prior to the injury that we can go back to. Several talented players in this draft had their draft stock crushed by playing through injuries (e.g., Marqise Lee, Stephen Morris...et.) this season; it seems like the reverse happened to him. Note the 3 games he played prior to the injury was against Connecticut, Florida International and Old Dominion, not exactly college football powerhouses.
Maybe. Most things I'm seeing now had him rated as a 6-7th round pick. Hard to believe someone else would want him so bad that they would draft him as high as we did. There were probably a like 10 CBs rated higher than him at that point so he probably would have been safe. Bottom line is that he's a risky pick to begin with due to size and injury history playing at a position that is difficult for rookies to adjust to...you factor in he was arguably taken 75+ picks early and it chalks up to an extremely questionable pick. Unless he ends up a star it seems like a pretty stupid pick IMO.
Where Huff was rated isn't that important. Some teams could have him as a 6th or a 4th...no big deal. No reason to put down our fellow draftniks here at TGG. I can understand the frustration with some with the Jet's 3rd Round pick. McDougle has 3 Round potential if healthy all year. McDougle was a reach, so I question Idzik's BPA Board. Idzik seems to place visits as the benchmark to make picks, something I stressed before the draft. McDougle is a really solid player, but would have been available later.
And with their 7th round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select Jay Prosch, FB, Auburn.
