Overall I enjoyed the first day. Most teams in front of us picked WRs, OLs, LBs and DLs, so by the time our pick came around, I thought we had a really nice selection to choose from (was really surprised both premium safeties and Dennard were still available).

I have to say I liked the pick being a Free Safety, but at the same time, a little confused why it wasnt Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, whom most picked as the best and most talented safety this year. I guess it has to do with Pryor being a better fit for our system and more physical, but I hope it doesn't come back to bite us if Dix becomes a real stud with the Packers. Still, all in all, I like the pick, hope Ryan and Idzik are right about Pryor having the range and speed to play as a true FS and not just stay around the line. In the press conference, Ryan said they timed him at 4.45 on the 40 when he came to the Jets facilities, which is much faster than what he was timed at at the combine (4.58). Hope that's true, as that sounds like a big difference. If he can step into the FS position and be successful, we have 3/4ths of our secondary set, with him, Milliner, and Allen at SS at some point.

Also found it interesting that the Jets passed up on Dennard, after all the talk from everyone about how well he fit out system and how good he is. I think his lack of athleticism and speed just scared people off in the end.

I know lots of you guys will want to grab a WR/TE now, but not me. We still need a corner to really set up our defense for a chance to be truly elite. I think we should try to get one of the remaining corners, maybe even use one of our later picks to trade up in the 2nd round if that's needed. The premium corners are all gone, but there are some interesting ones still on the board, with size if not speed.

Even more controversially, I wouldn't mind spending a 3rd pick on a quality QB prospect. I just think it's much more important (and difficult) to settle your QB situation than get a WR. Then, after that, we can spend a few 4/5/etc picks on WRs. I wouldn't really bother with TE this year unless a really good could be had in the later rounds, as I think Cumberland is good enough to play, if not special, and I would also like to see Sudfeld get some playing time, liked him in limited reps last year.

Taking a CB now would be nuts, absolutely nuts. Too many of the team's top picks have been spent on the D and Rex still can't get the job done, meanwhile the offense has sucked because it has had little talent and no playmakers. It's time to start spending some quality picks on the offense. If the Jets can't come up with quality offensive picks then both Rex and Idzik need to go.

Where I'll agree with you is the QB position. At a minimum, they're gonna need a backup, and if Geno doesn't pan out, a starter. I wouldn't mind seeing them use a 3rd or 4th round pick on a QB. The 2nd round pick had better be on a WR or TE. Having Pryor as the deep safety should help solve any problems that our CBs create as should a better pass rush and a more potent offense.

I liked the pick he fills a need and he brings stability to our secondary. Pryor and Allen is gonna be a tremendous safety duo. I hope we bring back Reed for one year to mentor the young guys.

I don't mind going defense in round 2 but I think there are better 2nd round OLB prospects than 2nd round CB prospects. Who knows though.

I definitely enjoyed this draft. There were some surprise picks and some surprise fallers (obviously Johnny Football) and a number of trades. Plus I am happy with the Pryor pick so that doesn't hurt.

I love the pick. Rex remembers how nice it was to have Laron Landry back there. He was a big badass mofo that could intimidate WRs and make them regret catching the ball. Our secondary hasn't been the same since Landry left. Even with no Revis that year we were a top secondary in the league. A good safety goes a long way. I know Clinton-Dix is probably more of a coverage guy but Pryor is a beast and we really could use a guy like that. It's nice to finally get a top prospected safety. Not to knock on Allen or Bush, but they were 6-7th round picks and have their moments, but Pryor will lock down SS position for years to come.

I don't see the need to take a QB at this point. If the Jets had serious doubts with Geno, they had their choice of Bridgewater or Manziel last night. If we're taking a QB just for depth, I don't want to spend a 3rd (or 4th) on one. Simms is fine for me as our emergency QB. Geno is our future right now. Why wind up with another McElroy? There are too many other needs. I'm hoping the guard from UCLA is still around and falls to us when we pick again. We need some nasty blockers ahead of Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory. It's time we draft a legit O-Lineman after whiffing on so many the previous drafts.

^Agreed. We have already put time and resources into Geno Smith. We brought on Vick specifically to mentor him. Drafting another QB at that point would have made the Vick pick up look stupid. Idzik had already planned that out.

I hope my confusion about not picking Ha Ha ends up like my confusion to why we didn't take Star.

if we get a CB in the 2nd or a QB in the 3rd I'm going to flip shit. Both and I'm going to break something valuable.

enjoyed it but it was far too long. the first round lasted over 4 hours!

I thought at the end of round 1 there were a few reaches (James, Benjamin, Smith).

Idzik has said bpa philosophy. Considering the jets still have major need at cb and olb/passrusher, nobody should be surprised if te,wr and ol is ignored again. If Taylor turns into a safety like berry of kc we will be in for a real treat.

We aren't a contender, big picture is the name of the game. I want idzik to stick to his philosophy. The jets haven't won a superbowl in 43 yrs, obviously the old way wasn't working.

If the Jets are going to go WR they need to get one in the 2nd round. I think that's the sweet spot round for draft value for WRs. Lee,Mathews,Latimer,Robinson,Adams. There some really good ones out there. If not round 2 then definitely round 3

Yes, the Jets have had a combination of poor management and bad luck. The old way was splashy grabs for players like Sanchez and look how that fizzled. Curiously, with the talent assembled in FA (and the big money spent) I don't see how, assuming we have say a B+ draft, we are not a contender to win the division. Plus, I agree with the way Idzik is building team and he will shut down most of his critics after the Draft is over. However, even with this approach I believe we can be right up there with the big boys sooner than you think.

I wish I shared your optimism. I think we're headed in the right direction but our qb situation isn't ideal to say the least. We also want to pound the rock but our guard situation is poor as well. Hopefully we get a couple more starters tonight. I'm just happy to see the jets value the draft because it's the only way to build a powerhouse.

Love the Pryor pick! Would be satisfied with our next two picks being CB/OL or CB/WR.....I think people on this board are overlooking the fact our offensive line is long in the tooth and has NO depth....i don't care what WR you draft if you have no protection no QB will be able to throw...and our secondary is still weak despite the Pryor pick so a CB is a MUST
