Not aware of any visit, maybe at Combine. If the Jets want to go with the Seattle "big player mold, he works. I just think there will be better players available that fall at #49.
I'd love to get Jean-Baptiste, and he'd make an excellent addition after taking Pryor in the first. If we take him it would appear that we are more in the mold of Seattle than we even thought. Can't wait for tonight.
Jean-Baptiste is an intriguing prospect, and is physically very gifted (from what i gather. haven't watched film). very inexperienced at the CB position though, having converted from WR in college. That rawness makes it too risky for me in the 2nd, as there will be some very good players available.
If you listen to the post draft conference Rex and Idzik both made references to the Seattle mold so I think that's the direction they want to go in, could we see a shift to the 4-3 this season?
Going into the draft process he probably carried a 3rd-4th round grade due to level of comp, unrefined technique and poor run supporter. However, his size (6-0 193) and combine performance has vaulted him to the 2nd round. I think he's a poor man's Milliner. Like Milliner, he needs to work on his backpedalling and ball skills. You would like to see him close the deal more by turning some of those pass break-ups into INTs. I think he may be further along in his press coverage skills than Milliner was coming out at least I've seen more tape of him doing than I did Milliner. 3rd round or later I'd be looking at Marcus Roberson of Florida and Ross Crockwell of Duke. Those guys are good cover CBs who did not run fast times at either the combine or their respective pro-days.
I don't know, people say that every year but we are just an overall multiple defense. Perhaps we will see more 4-3 fronts than in the past, but we saw a lot of that last year as it is. Theoretically we could put Snacks and Sheldon at DT, Q and Mo at DE, Harris at MLB, Davis and Pace at OLB, and Allen and Pryor at safety. I think at his age perhaps Pace fits better as a 3-4 OLB than a 4-3 OLB since he isn't as fast but I mean that could genuinely work. I think if we take Stanley Jean-Baptiste in the second maybe we really are leaning towards that more, but if you want my honest opinion I have to think we will still probably play 3-4 more than any other particular formation. To me the Seattle mold isn't dictated by a 4-3 front. Revis was better than Sherman when he was at his peak because Revis could lock down a WR even when a play broke down and a QB was scrambling around, whereas Sherman is great but he doesn't have that perfect shadow technique. Back then, our D-line was stout but not a force to be reckoned with, so we had to bring blitzes and simulate pressure. We now have more disruptive dominant defensive linemen who help out our back end, and I think that is something Seattle has done. They have great secondary players, but even Sherman does not have the responsibility Revis did because his D-line doesn't make him cover as long because they usually get to the passer more quickly than our front 7 did in 2009 and 2010. So while we may want to do some things similarly to Seattle, I think we can do that well with a 3-4 front. The Patriots are a finesse offense (honestly they are the perfect representation of what that is) and by giving the defense a disruptive, physical enforcer in the middle of the field, those 4 yard crossing routes they love to run will be a whole lot more dangerous for them. I think we can be extremely effective in a 3-4 front, but before making too many more assumptions I want to see what we do with the rest of the draft.
we were more of a 4-3 last year... thats why i keep saying its non sense to call coples a olb when he plays de every snap
That's not true, we played more 3-4 fronts than 4-3. Coples moves around a lot but that does not mean we did not play a 3-4 on the majority of snaps.
go back and watch how many times coples stood up.. 95% of the time he was on the edge with his hand in the dirt
I'd have no problem with picking Gaines or Jean-Baptiste. I know Jets have had at least one visit with Breeland (Clemson). Believe they're pretty high on him.
Hate hate hate in the 2nd. Way too many better offensive options around. Shit there's better defensive options too i.e. Van Noy.
