Do you think maybe the front office doesn't see wr as big of a need following decker and Jacoby ford signings so all else being equal if lee or Matthews drops and bpa is a pass rusher or corner they go with defense again?
I think that Lee would've easily been in the top 3 WR discussion in this draft if it wasn't for his injury history. The kid had an amazing career for USC, even with a poor year last year. The only reason teams are passing on this kid is because of his injury history, you factor that in with the fact that teams don't feel like they have to take a risk with Lee considering the depth at WR this year in this draft. It hurts Lee even further. I think that this kid is already a major steal for some team out there at this point, it's just a matter of him staying healthy in the NFL. If he can, I think he has a good chance to be one of the best WR coming out of this draft.
Matthews for me. Taller, faster, stronger, complete route tree, higher vertical, and more productive numbers than Lee. I feel for Lee because he's a high character kid and the injury bug kept him from being viewed higher. But I don't see how anyone looks at Matthews tape vs the SEC talent that he faced every week and doesn't see a future #1 WR. Matthews is 6'3 206 4.4 and 35.5 vert. Yes, please!
Lee is an absolute heist here and Houston is shopping their pick. With 11 picks left, it's time for the Jets to move up and get it done.
I do. I personally don't think WR is as huge of a need as most others. Decker and Kerley are good to very good receivers. Cumberland is ok. One additional good to very good receiver would be nice, but not necessarily a must have. It also could come from the TE or WR position. If we do go WR, and all of a sudden the light comes on for Hill (remote), it will almost feel like the WR pick was a wasted pick. I also think a big, physical WR would be a much better pairing with a young QB than another small, shifty WR. Right now, we're solid, but not great at WR. I don't think any rookie WR outside of Watkins or Evans would have changed that. I think we have the chance to have an elite rushing attack if we can improve the OL, and wouldn't be surprised if we went that route. A pass rusher is also a possibility given that a good pass rush & safety help can help cover up some potential weakness at CB.
With Keenan Allen and Alshon Jeffery there's an established pattern of #1 WR's having an injury disrupted final season and falling in the draft only to recapture their past form in the NFL.
I'd be happy with either Matthews or Lee. Would prefer they didn't have to trade up, but am getting so tired of damned defense picks, that I might deviate from my norm of not wanting to trade up. I think there is definitely a big need at both WR AND the TE positions.
Lee won't be available, we can kiss that train goodbye - we will be lucky to get Allen Robinson or Jordan Matthews, I think we will need to trade up for that to happen
funny as I'm watching NFL Network now they don't even have Matthews as a top 5 receiver left in the draft...they have: Lee Robinson Landry Adams Richardson
There's no need to trade up. A lot of the guys ahead of us have more pressing needs like d lineman and linebackers. There's a good chance that if Oakland and Jacksonville don't take receivers theone of them slide to us. Bills and giants not taking receivers again
I go Matthews here all day over Lee. would even trade up a bit to get it done. decent article on strengths and weaknesses of Matthews. One thing that really stood out....."His play against Ole Miss in last year's season opener - a game in which he took a big hit, threw up on the field, and then came back to catch the clutchest-of-clutch passes on a desperate fourth-and-18 play with the outcome hanging in the balance" I like the toughness, and the completeness of his game. http://www.anchorofgold.com/2014/5/...port-jordan-matthews-wr-keeper-of-the-offense
