Ian RapoportVerified account@RapSheet #Jets are doing a lot of groundwork for QBs that may land in the first round or early in the 2nd round. Watch for Carr, watch for Garoppolo
There is one thing we agree with: McCarron is not going to be the long-term answer for Jets. I do see him as the very best the last few drafts have to offer when it comes to game managing QB. He won't throw stupid INTs. He won't put the ball on the ground when the offense hasn't even gotten out of 20's. Yes, he will start. And he will win, if his W/L means anything to you. [Loaded team or not - which I don't buy, by the way - 36-4 does not come easily to any QB.] I see him as the 'vehicle' to hold the team intact while Jets can build the roster, and finally land the franchise QB. Since I absolutely abhor turnovers and dumb fuck play out of QB position, I just cannot see Geno as the long term answer. [Much the same as I didn't want to see Sanchez as the long term QB.] I don't know how smart McCarron will be, but if he shows half the intelligence that Chad showed, [Geno failed to show a fucking OUNCE of brain Chad had, if you ask me.] then that's a 4th round pick very well spent - to me at least. [And Geno still has this issue with 'fundamentals', if you know what I mean.]
Not many have the brain Chad had! If they keep all 3 4th round picks, I have a feeling that is where they are going to pull the trigger on a QB. I'm not buying any of this trade up talk (in round 1), but I wouldn't be surprised if they used some of those late picks to move up in the later rounds. Hard to keep 12 rookies on a team.
Yeah, he just said the same thing live too and those two might end up being the best two QBs in this draft. A trade up for Beckham and a QB early would really be something.
1. That's my hunch too. If they do pull the trigger on McCarron with one of the 4th round picks, I would be doing cartwheels. At least someone else in the organization sees what I see in that kid as well. 2. That aside, though, I don't see the point of trading up. Jets are severely talent depleted all across the roster. They need to draft backups in virtually every roster positions. I'll just agree to disagree on this part.
Only QB I would definitely take in the 1st is Manziel, maybe Bortles. I'd probably take Bridgewater and Carr in the 2nd.
I agree we need all the picks. I just don't see how it's possible to keep 12 draft picks with the roster size.
We aren't so loaded with talent and depth that it's out of the question to keep all 12, although not likely. A few may go on the Practice Squad, and perhaps 1-2 may not make the team
Sorry to disagree but other QB's are IMO just as good if not better. The knock on TB is he will have a bigger stage than Louisville to perform under and the nerves take over. No one likes to be scrutinized, but if you are a GM his 3 years at college have to outweigh what they saw in person plus he is not starting his career at $30,000. If I am proved wrong I can accept that.
