That's giving up three prospects. Three players who may turn out to be useful parts of the team in two or three years. It all depends who the move would be for, of course, but I'd rather have the extra bodies than roll the dice on one player.
I think the reports were BS again. I think the media thought the Jets were high on Geno and it made a good story to say the Jets were frantically trying to trade up for him. I think the Jets drafted Geno because he was there on their pick and probably in their top 20 prospects overall. If they'd been frantically trying to trade up they'd have found a trade. In fact a couple of trades did happen in front of the Jets, at 34 and 38, so it's not like picks weren't available.
There was smoke and then there was fire about who they drafted. You can decide to think one way or another, but the Jets were reported to be trying to draft Geno Smith and they did. There's no way to explain that differently. I choose to believe that Idzik did try to trade up, but was shrewd about it the way he has been shrewd all of this off-season, didn't get the deal he wanted, stood pat and got his guy anyway.
If true i wonder who they LOVE? They must of gotten a huge hard on for somebody to make a move like that... Mike Evans maybe?
Aaron Donald. He'll play nose, left guard, and lead blocker for our goal-line back (Sheldon Richardson).
I know you're probably being facetious or sarcastic, but if they trade up for Donald, I'm done with this team as long as Idzik is the GM and Woody the owner. He's a great player, but the Jets don't need another DT.
But you left out Rex! Maybe Sheldon scoring TD's last year was the beginning of Rex's ultimate dream - to just have 22 defensive players start on both sides of the ball, and win every game by a hockey score. I think Aaron Donald is a phenomenal talent, a guy that could shore up the position for a decade, and definite BPA if available at anything lower than 13...and if we draft him I quit this team too!
Man, two years in a row of mass amounts of fans quitting the team after a 1st round selection would be just devastating.
Cant be Donald... I know it's a bit crazy but if they move up it has to someone they absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! The only player i can see is Sammy Watkins because of his connection to Rex and co but it would cost us a boatload!!! The Browns and Rex's buddy Pettine are the only realistic trading partner in the top 5...
LOL I can live with Rex for the time being. I keep hoping that he'll learn and change so I will like him again. I agree that Donald is a phenomenal talent, and if we didn't have the talent we already have on the DL, I'd have no problems with our taking him, but we do. Who are you gonna sit so Donald can play/start? The thing is, if some team below us covets Donald, then the Jets could possibly pick up a nice pick or picks in exchange for moving down, especially if more than one team covets him. How sweet would that be to have 2-3 teams bidding against each other for the right to take Donald? Not very likely, but fun to think about the Jets benefitting from something like that for a change.
That chart is bullshit. No one follows that. Look at the Miami trade last year. They moved from 12 to 3 and didn't give up shit compared to that chart.
Brilliant post. Idzik is considering trading up because he has his eye on a very valued prospect. Not sure if it's CB, QB, or WR but unless there is Mr. Wonderful a few rounds down he is not trading down for quantity over quality. The cream usually rises to the top not the opposite.
I agree. This draft is different, but that chart doesn't hold any water anymore. That's old school thinking.
