He's getting more money than Revis, and this deal probably adds fuel to his greed! Good luck to his next team... The modern day Sanders will be a 1 year rental player for teams in contention from here on out.
It's basically a 5 year deal for $60M, counting this year. I don't think Revis is losing any sleep over it.
Revis is probably more happy than jealous. The Seahawks just maintained a gaudy level of top-end salary for cornerbacks in what is basically a contract year for Revis.
This thread doesn't have anything to do with the Jets... but the cornerback market is fucked. I don't know how these GMs are rationalizing paying this much. Sherman is a playmaker, no doubt, but he is just one guy on one side of the field. The good thing for Seattle is they will probably be good for the entirety of Sherman's contract since they already have a QB and good supporting cast. But Wilson's payday is coming soon and that + Sherman and Earl Thomas' contract could start to impinge on keeping the roster flushed.
He will be 30 before his next contract year starts and nobody will be giving him that kind of deal ever again. He still has to prove he is as good as he was to even get what NE is giving him this year and he didn't look it in TB.
When Cromartie is injured, he gets a pass for being one of the worst corners in the league, and there are complaints about not replacing that putrid performance when he is released. When Revis is coming off an ACL tear an performs at only above average level in a badly schemed defense, he is still has to prove that he is as good as he was. Got it.
We are only talking about money and contracts here and I still say he will never see another contract like that in his career. He will be 30 and no longer the best CB in the league. If you think otherwise you will be disappointed.
His ACL tear wasn't even 2 years ago yet, stop being sour because he left the Jets, he's the best since Deion.
Stop..he played in TB last year, he didn't play in 2012 and he was good in 2011..would it have made you smile if I said 3 seasons ago? Currently he is not the best CB in the league and he may not even be in the top 5 if you go by the stats which so many people around here love to do. He will never see a 60M contract with 40M guaranteed again in his life and nothing you say will change that.
In 2013 it was probably Sherman, Peterson, Haden, Talib and Tilman but that's just a guess and I am sure you can find the stats.
Stats are not important to me considering how relative they can be, in fact a lot of people assume that Sherman is a great press man corner when in reality Seattle plays a ridiculous amount of Cover 3 zone. Revis wasn't his usual hip to hip shutdown self last year but that also had to with the type of scheme he was playing in, I expect him to be used properly in NE and have a great year. Revis never relied on elite athleticism to shut his man down he was so smart he knew what routes his opponent was going to run from the crazy amount of film study he did on top of flawless technique.
No need to argue the fact, this all got started in the discussion of contracts. I do not believe and will never believe that Revis has another contract coming in his career that will be anything like what Sherman got yesterday. I think he will be too old for one thing, his holdout history proceeds him for another and I no longer think he is the best CB in the league for a third. He has a chance to prove he is this year but if he doesn't then he won't even see 12M ever again either.
