Considering we're talking about an up and coming team like the Jets, who went 8-8 last year, there is no way in hell - none whatsoever - that their 2015 1st, 2014 3rd, and a 2014 4th gets them anywhere even remotely meaningful in the 1st round. 1st round picks in a future year historically have approximately half the trade value of their current year valuation - they DO NOT have 1st round value in current year trade talks.

Look at 1st round trades in recent years on wikipedia. The closest you'll get is the Saints trading their 2012 1st and their 2011 2nd for the Patriots 2011 1st (27th overall). You can almost never acquire a 1st round pick in the current draft without using a 1st round pick in the current draft as the centerpiece of your offer.

Like your post, Jay. Takes guts to suggest we even go for him. I think 70% of TGG would freak and 30% would be OK for possibly a great QB. Don't you think he would get injured with his style of play?

Idzik is probably just calling around to gauge the cost for moving up. Doesn't mean he's gonna do it but if the cost is right why not consider it. I personally believe the talk about moving into the top 10 for OBJ is the media filling in the blanks.

If the offense was centered around the run game and we limited his improvising and frantic style of play to only a few times a game I think he will be fine.. He will need to know when to throw the ball away and when to get out of bounds tho.. No getting killed for an extra yard.. If we trade up and he is available it is going to be a very hard decision to make in Florham Park. I would hate to be making it.

Agreed. It's amazing to me how far he's fallen this past year, all because of a fairly common injury that he is 100% recovered from now! Makes no sense; the guy was a top 10 lock, and considered the best WR prospect in this class (and yes, that includes Watkins) prior to his 2013 injury-affected stat decline. But healthy now, he's the same elite prospect he was before. He's this year's Dez Bryant; an elite prospect falling to the lower part of round 1 for bogus "last minute" concerns; for Dez it was supposed character concerns, and for Lee it's the injury (that, again, he's recovered from).

Marqise Lee will end up being THE BEST WR in this class, better than even "the great Sammy Watkins". Mark my words.

I have been excited for the draft since the day our season ended...now we're about 24 hours away and I'm more worried than I am excited. I hope we don't trade down and I'd really, really prefer to draft a WR over a QB or CB in the first.

It's almost analogous to having Sammy Watkins land in your lap lol. The way you describe it here coaching Manziel would be easy since that's how MM talks to Geno and Vick. IMO Johnny M could be Geno on Red Bull and BPH lol.

Highly doubt it... I think Lee will be an average slot WR.. His speed and hand techniques are average at best!

Watkins, Evans, Beckham, Benjamin, cooks and Mathews all will be better IMO

It's all about what have you done for me lately in the NFL. Lee unfortunately ended his college career on a mediocre note. Watkins is deserving of the top 10 pick because he bounced back. I think Lee and Watkins both have extremely high upside. Both will be great in my opinion.

I still want Cooks, but I wouldn't be mad at all if we selected Lee. I'd be fine with either Cooks or Lee, but not with OBJ.

OBJ may go before Evans they are now saying...maybe you should rethink it.

So the way I see it there are 3 possible explanation for these rumors.

    1. Jets actually are planning to move up for someone.

    2. JI calls various teams to get a feeling for the price for a possible trade up without targeting any particular prospect.

    3. Jets are setting the smokescreen to get someone nervous in hope that otherwise unavailable player would fall to 18.

I have no basis for the following and no links. However just watching JI work do far I think all three are possible. I do believe Idzik is capable of making a move for someone he believe in 100% or someone potentially so important for the future that almost any price is justified.

I also think that due diligence is his gospel. I worked with people like this who wouldn't tear a piece of toilet paper without considering all possibilities. Idzik strikes me as this type.

I also think that blowing smoke is not out of the question. Every year there is a team that buys into the rumors and jumps the gun. And every year there is a highly projected player who falls off (see Smith, Gino for example). I can see that if there is even a slightest chance a false rumor can increase chances of someone falling to 18, Idzik would be game. In addition, it allows Rex a little room re mouth running and feeds the starved media a little (or sets them up for another round of shitted pants -- whichever you prefer).

IMO it's a combination of all three. JI gets feeling for the price while adding confusion while giving RR a little talking opportunity while fucking with Mehtas.

If I had to bet, I'd say Jets are likely to stay pat or move down. However if the smoke works and someone like Watkins is there at past 14, I can see Jets making a move 2-4 spots up to get him.

Personally, I think I'd wonder what type of issue Watkins has if he was there past 14.

At the end of the day, it will increase our chances to get a great player if these QBs go early!

    Damnit Bills draft another QB!

A lot of this is about perception. Get someone to worry what's wrong with Watkins if no one is showing interest and maybe you get him to fall to you.

Toronto is too cold for Johnny Football, and not enough cameras around. Let him freeze there.
