This is Izdik. Nobody really has a clue what we are thinking because he has a gag order on everybody. Having said that, If we trade up I'd want it to be for Mike Evans or Sammy Watkins, not Beckham.
@TurnOnTheJets: Have heard from multiple places that #Jets have spent an inordinate and noticeably high amount of time focused on QBs leading up to draft
Like your post and the way you summed things up as far as the Jets potential, it really does look good. If we could not get Watkins for whatever reasons, what new WR would you like to have on the Jets?
http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/287111/werder-beckham-could-go-before-mike-evans?rw=1 Another 30 hours of this.... brilliant idea, pushing the draft into May, Roge.
It might be worth it though.. And with the amount of picks we have this year, we can do some wheeling and dealing to get back into the 2nd round if we wanted to... If there was someway we could guarantee that Watkins will be an AJ Green or Julio Jones type player, then I would be all for it..
Now Mehta is reporting that numerous teams have said the Jets are showing serious interest to move up in the draft. Granted, it is Mehta, but this is becoming real interesting. This is coming from many sources now
Am I to assume that the #18 is a given? Because if not, that deal isn't even remotely close. It probably wouldn't get you ANY 1st round pick in this draft.
Ok let me get this straight, the team spent a year and a half, getting their finances in order by getting rid of bloated contracts for players who they considered old, or unproductive. They were extremely cautious in the offseason with who they signed. We heard multiple times about how Idzik likes to build through the draft for the future. Now all of a sudden they are going to throw caution to the wind and pull a Matt Millen for a WR. I don't buy it, what I think is happening is that teams are talking to each other, it happens on every draft day. Unless Woody is putting his nose where it does not belong I don't see the jets giving up on their long term plan the day of the draft for one player. JMO
Next year's 1st + 3rd and 4th round picks this season is the kind of trade that MAYBE gets you the 28th pick or something.
Nah but not much higher than where we are now, 18. The 3 and 4 are this year so their value is set. The 2015 1st is assumed to have less value as it is assumed the team will be better but it still has 1st round value.
JJ and AJ are great players but neither one has a Super Bowl appearance and AJ has never won a division title. Just take look at what happened with the Falcons last year.
I love Sammy Watkins as much as anyone, but trading up for a WR in quite possibly the best and deepest WR class ever, particularly when there are at least three other WRs who would be great fits on the Jets (Cooks, Beckham Jr. & Lee) would be incredibly foolish imo. The Jets are not a player or two away from being a SB contender, therefore, the only two positions that it makes any sense at all to trade up for are QB and a stud pass-rushing OLB, because they are two of the most important positions on a team that plays a 3-4 D alignment much of the time, and are the two hardest to get. If Idzik is serious about moving up, and the reports about the Jets spending an inordinate amount of time looking at QBs is true, then I think the Jets are trading up in hopes of snagging Teddy, Manziel or Carr or they're hoping to grab Mack, Clowney or Barr. If it's a QB, then they must not be sold on Geno at all.
With at Top 10 defense and Eric Decker, Sammy Watkins, Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, Jeremy Kerley, and Bilal Powell and Mike Vick, I think we could make it pretty damn far.
