He will always be lined up in the slot or outside. Putting him in-line is a complete waste, unless he learns how to block and suddenly gains the desire / willingness to do so. If you draft Ebron, you're not getting a TE. You're getting a me-first wannabe WR who thinks he has it all figured out. You might as well just draft Kelvin Benjamin if you truly want a "matchup nightmare" and don't care about character or work ethic. On Ebron's signature highlight reel play, the defenders basically run into each other and fall down, so he sprints like 80 yards to the end zone untouched.
1. I would never agree w/ that assessment. Ebron is more than capable of playing in line.Blocking may not be his strength but he's at least serviceable 2. The game has changed. A versatile TE who can also line-up at WR is not a bad thing. Why you would think such a thing? It's not 1985 anymore buddy. It's about match-ups. Ebron's size/speed/movement is a match-up nightmare 3. the fact that you're judging the player based on a hightlight reel...and beyond that 1 PLAY from a highlight reel tells me all I need to know. Everybody thinks there an expert by watching ESPN & a couple highlight reels.Get a clue.
I'm not judging him based on 1 play, man. Read what I wrote. Nowhere did I say versatility was a bad thing. What I said was that's all he's good for, so you might as well draft a WR. Watch the game tape. The guy doesn't block. He's not "serviceable." Listen to the words that come out of the man's own mouth. And by the way, for all his "size / speed / movement" the guy you are so hot for is slower than the incumbent TE on the roster. Jeff Cumberland runs a 4.45. Ebron runs a 4.6. You are one of those sheep who just regurgitates what the "experts" think.
Clearly Cumberland is a superior athlete. Comparing Ebron to Vernon Davis is a crime. 40 yard dash: 4.38 Davis, 4.45 Cumberland, 4.60 Ebron 20-yard split: 2.59 Davis, 2.61 Cumberland, 2.71 Ebron 10-yard split: 1.51 Davis, 1.54 Cumberland, 1.63 Ebron Bench Press: 33 reps Davis, 24 reps Ebron, 2o reps Cumberland Vertical Jump: 42" Davis, 35.5" Cumberland, 30" Ebron (awful) Short-Shuttle: 4.17 Davis, 4.39 Cumberland, 4.57 Ebron Three-Cone: 6.89 Cumberland, 7.00 Davis, 7.49 Ebron and let's not forget this: Ebron has terrible hands, 11% drop rate in '13
The question I ask is why can't Ebron be looked at as a WR? Graham isn't really a TE. If Ebron can make the catches and provide more room for the guys on the outside to get open then I'm willing to risk his troubles with the run blocking
Because Graham has amazing hands and a great vertical. Ebron has terrible hands and a terrible vert. In fact, he has by far the worst hands out of any of the top TE prospects this year.
This may be incredibly ignorant on my part, but I lost interest in Ebron after hearing 1) comparison to Dustin Keller and 2) that he has attitude issues. We just got rid of Holmes, we don't need a new one.
regarding Ebron, neither his game nor his maturity are complete enough to warrant the #18. just my opinion, but i want a complete football player at #18. also want high character, high motor, and a passion for football at that high a selection.
