they're not trading up, its to get other people to trade up to take beckham so we get cooks, which is the player they want all along, all a smokescreen, BRANDIN COOKS is the pick, deal with it, they wanted tavon last year til the rams cock blocked up, all non-sense smokescreen talk , the pick is cooks, get over yourselves, they are not trading up or trading down
If we got a bargain trade price I wouldn't mind moving up for Evans either, but Watkins is going to be awesome.
So we are smokescreening and YOU, the internet GM can see right through it... but real life GMs can't? I love this place. On an actual relevant note, there are two players we should consider trading up for: Evans and Watkins. That's it. If we are looking at a CB in the first round, odds are one of the top three will be there for us at 18. I don't think there is that much of a difference between the top ranked CB and the third ranked CB... meanwhile a guy like Watkins is an absolute potential game-changing player while guys like Beckham, Cooks or Lee are just very very good.
Analysts, Kiper specifcally, keep talking about a big 7: The 3 OTs, 2 WRs (Watkins, Evans), Clowney & Mack. If we trade up into the top 10, it's to land one of those guys. After those 7 guys, there's a good amount of depth at the next tier of player to ensure someone of value will be available when we pick.
And maybe Ebron too..of course with all the bad press about him in the last 2 days he may fall to us where we are but I wouldn't count on it..probably more crap put out there by Belichick so he can get him where he wants him.
I would be thrilled with Watkins.. If we can some how grab him while only giving up our 1st, our 3rd and our 4th, I would do it... We would still have our 2nd pick, and our comp 4th... Idzik could probably package some of our later picks to move back up into the 4th round if he really wanted to...
For those who want Marqise Lee ... you will like this article, from the NY Post 2 days ago. (if you haven't seen it already) "The Jets have shown a ton of interest in Lee. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg attended Lee’s pro day in March and met with him privately both before and after the workout. The Jets then had Lee visit their Florham Park training center to get more information on the 6-foot receiver." http://nypost.com/2014/05/05/jets-eye-now-healthy-usc-wr-marqise-lee/ http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2053035-jets-eye-now-healthy-usc-wr-marqise-lee
Imagine a trade up like the Dolphins did last year and we snag Sammy Watkins. Good god I would cream myself.
Don't move up. Just sit tight @18. If not Cooks or Lee, Dennard or Gilbert will fall. I'd be happy with Zack Martin. There will be good players to choose from at that spot regardless of what happens in front of us. The only way I'd move up is if Sammy Watkins somehow fell out of the top 5 or if we could get a sweetheart Mangini-type deal to move up for Mike Evans.
The more I think about it, the more I think trading up for Watkins would be the right move. Here's why: I was also on the boat with not trading up unless you are a few pieces away but I started thinking about it more. Let's say Eric Decker pans out and let's say Geno Smith grows into the quarterback we have needed. Let's just say Smith becomes above average. Think about this for a second: possibly the best defensive line in football, Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, and Bilal Powell all in the backfield, paired with Eric Decker and Sammy Watkins. You revert your focus to offensive line and secondary in a VERY deep draft and suddenly you have a possible great offense. If Vick is healthy and starts, you are talking playoffs instantly. Now, we are not one or two needs away, but if you add a guy like Sammy Watkins on offense with the adding of Decker, Johnson, and Vick, you aren't taking any steps backwards. We aren't the Raiders here. We were 8-8 last season with a terrible secondary and bad play at QB for a majority of the year.
Do you realize what it would cost to move up to take Watkins? He will absolutely go in the first 5 picks. You're talking this year's 1 and 2 and next year's 2 just to get to #5. He may be gone by then. We won't be trading up for Watkins.
I highly doubt we move into the top 10.. The price will be at least our 2nd + 3rd and in a deep draft I just don't approve!! To me this is just pre draft hype
I'm for trading up using draft picks. Just not in the first rounds. Do you really think the Jets are going to come out of the draft with 12 rookies? I don't.
Please no. Watkins is a tremendous player but there is no way I'm giving up what it'll take to get him. I'm just not--it's a pipe dream. _
