LOL, seriously? What a bunch of drama queens. At no point did Klecko even come close to insinuating that these players should be cut. Sounds to me more like he thinks they haven't reached their full potential yet and have a ton to improve.
He is kinda right about Coples,He doesn't give it his all on everyplay,but we knew that when we drafted him.This is a very important year for his future def a make or break type of season.He's still a solid OLB regardless
Meh, Wilkerson's production dropped because we forced a lot of turnovers in those last couple games, hence defense wasn't really on the field as much. DE production #s can be deceptive because they are dependent on the defense seeing substantial time on the field, which doesn't always happen. Milliner came on strong, Coples came on strong. Wilkerson helped force the issue but just because he didn't pad his stats in those 2 games with other people stepping up, doesn't mean he was worn out. He contributed on a lot of those plays and opened it up for other people which is his primary job as a 3-4 DE.
Just curious, what do you base this opinion on? Jets fans give up on their players faster than any other team, I swear. 2 years at 2 diff positions, both of which where he turned up the heat when he adjusted, and you think that's a fair way to judge him? Huh? You have video evidence to support this? The dude is just lanky so simple minded people think he's lazy. That shit doesn't hold water, sorry. What a lazy bastard learning 2 different roles in 2 years. Why isn't he getting 12+ sacks a year yet????
Ok but it wasn't just the end of the season where Wilkerson "quit" on plays. It happened threw out the season typically in the 3rd and 4th qtrs..
Coples has not lived up to the 16th pick in the draft. Red flags when we drafted em to...... It is time for his own to step up because he wont be getting a big contract from anyone if he doesnt improve.
With all due respect, a player being tall and/or "lanky" has nothing to do with his appearing to be lazy, missing a strong motor and/or failing to give his total effort from snap to whistle. If you want video evidence to support examples of tall and lanky players who could never be mistaken for being lazy due to their builds, just take a look at the game film of former players like Jevon Kearse, Ted Hendricks, Mark Gastineau and Ed, "Too Tall" Jones. Whether someone is big or small, skinny or stocky, great effort (or the lack thereof) is typically readily apparent.
I'm pretty sure I've read multiple places that he actually pressure the passer a ridiculous amount towards the end of the year. It's not all about sacks. Plus didn't he have like 4.5 sacks in the last 5 games, or 3.5 sacks in the last 4. I have a feeling Coples will be fine, and the guys who are saying get rid of him now are going to look like idiots.
I think Coples is going to have a big year. does that mean 8 sacks, 10 sacks, 12 sacks? I don't know but I expect him to have a big year harassing QBs.
Not to mention missing almost all of TC with a broken ankle. Not sure if any of you have ever broken your ankle before, But I sure as hell wasn't performing at 100% for a few months. "The injury occurred when Coples rushed Jacksonville quarterback Chad Henne from the blind side and nearly causing a fumble in the second quarter" He was adjusting to his new role pretty well up to that point. I think the injury combined with the position change really set him back. Most of this "motor/taking plays off" stuff is bullshit made up during draft time when people have to much time on their hands. Anyone in this thread who wants to claim otherwise; I ask you to find one instance,. just one of Coples OBVIOUSLY taking a play off as so many of you have claimed. If it's as bad as people say it should be pretty easy to find and obvious to spot, So I'm curious what you all come up with. I think we're in pretty solid shape on the front 7. Coples is going to take another step, Harrison is another year smarter / Stronger. Ellis is in his contract year and is still one of the better run stuffing DTs in the league. Harris still has tread on the tires and Davis hopefully continues to grow into his role as a leader / beast in the middle. Add in a healthy Barnes and perhaps another situational pass rusher and it could be really scary for opposing offenses. Here's to the D taking another step to elite this summer, And to seeing a lot of this;
I'm not really seeing the issue with Coples OR Wilkerson, whether it be production or effort. Wilkerson will be an All Pro this year and even the slightest bit of progression from Coples and he'll be one of the anchors of our defense this year. I love Klecko but man, he's being a bit picky here. These two guys are players, will be for years. _
The Jets average TOP last year was 29:40. The year before, 29:50. This notion that the defense isn't as good because they are on the field for " 3/4" of the game is absolutely ludicrous...untrue...fales...total bullshit
I'd like some examples of Wilkerson quitting on plays. Maybe I just didn't notice him at all times, but I don't recall this at all. If it was one of those games with tons of turnovers and he was tired at the end I can see that, but I don't remember him ever not giving full effort. There's a difference between being tired and quitting on plays.
Sure, then give me some examples of this from when he wasn't injured. To some folks it has everything to do with it. I don't remember him quitting on plays or not putting full effort. The "lazy" stereotype is just so wrong, it's not even funny. Again, getting worn out from having a game where the offense turns the ball over 3+ times is not lazyness. I'm just wondering where people get this idea. Maybe I'm wrong. But then again, I have yet to see evidence of this behavior. It was the theme when he was drafted and darksiders have just ran with it since then, despite him disproving it several times over.
It was pretty consistent threw season in later qtrs. Before i rewatched the season i would have said the same thing. Go back watch a few games you will see it once you are looking for it. I was extremely shocked to see it but its clearly there.
