Idzik doesn't care about need. He said that yesterday. What matters is the value grade the Jets place on prospects: OL,DL, whatever. So I am braced for a few things, hopefully pleasantly surprised.
Has the tape given you any insight yet into why OBJ caught just 3 of the 30 TD passes LSU QB's threw against SEC teams from 2011 to 2013? Has it answered the question of why he caught TD's in only 2 of 26 career SEC starts?
For the same reason that D-Rob was the 1st defensive tackle in the 2003 draft on the 4 pick: herd mentality. And BTW I don't buy that OBJ is going to be the 3rd guy taken. If I thought he was going up high I wouldn't be half as concerned as I am right now. I think there's a very good chance he's there on the Jets draft pick and I think the new special teams coordinator would love to have him returning kicks and I think the Jets might fall down a rabbit hole as a result.
Same reason Stephen Hill got taken in the 2nd round when he should have fallen to the back half of the draft. "Potential" and "measurables".
Hey, welcome to the TGG. Posters here are the most knowledgeable and you will be entertained! All I know is that the Jets have their "grades" of all players and depending on that they will play this game Thursday night. Seems like a high risk to bet they go anyway as expected.
this is ridiculous http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9403/odell-beckham if it turns out to be true, wow. I can't believe the Bills would actually take Odell Beckham Jr. within 1 or 2 picks of where Mike Evans is projected to go.
In "Caught in the draft: 1994," I heard Jimmy Johnson say something awesome that I agree with. It doesn't always work out, but... Jimmy (paraphrasing): I always hear people say take the "best player on the board." I never approached it that way. I want the guys that I want. And if I feel it's too early to take the guy that I want where I'm picking, I'm gonna move back, rack up some extra picks, and still get the guy.
I'm more in the OBJ camp but will be pissed if we trade up for him. If he's gone he's gone, just pick someone else. Maybe even Cooks if he's still around.
Or just not take a WR in the first because there's so many good prospects in the 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th rounds.
Yeah, sorry I didn't mean "someone else" to mean "next best WR" or something. Anyone else is fine. Especially if people are rising up the draft board ahead of where we are picking as that means someone good will have to fall to us. Just hope it's not a DT or QB as I'd really prefer to stay away from both of those in the first.
Let the Bills grab OBJ who cares? Bills love to reach for players. This is no exception. The only reason people like this guy is because of his physique and potential - the guy doesn't bring it in big games. Stephen Hill is far worse obviously ... but I see why people are comparing the two.
Only QB I love in the first is Teddy, I really think he's gonna be a stud at the next level. I definitely agree that we don't need another interior linemen, I'd be ok with a defensive player in the first considering the drop off in talent from the first round down gets pretty steep at certain positions. WR is truly loaded this year, so many good prospects we can get a starter in the 2nd and 3rd round there.
