I don't know who the hell this guy is and he is using an anonymous source so I am prefacing this with "this probably is not true". Feel free to stop reading and ignore the article at any time and save your flames for someone who cares. If it does turn out to be true I'll be paying more attention to this guy. Anyway, it sounded interesting and we're all chomping at the bit for something to chew on leading up to the draft. http://onejetatatime.com/2014/rumors-draft-day-trade-for-notable-cornerback.html
Ive seen Claiborne's name out there a couple times since the hot part of the free agency period ended. Dont know if Id consider it a rumor. More-so a fan suggestion. But even if Claiborne isnt the player out there thats available , I would hope Idzik is looking to trade either a 3rd or 4th for a CB that can make a difference. Much less risk in that then selecting 1 of the 3 top CB's at 18.
The article refers/claims a source is saying the Jets have interest. If true that's more than a fan suggestion. Again - I have no clue how reliable this guy is though.
This is such a bad year for the Jets to, all of a sudden, have a terrible secondary. Hope it is improved this weekend, somehow.
As somebody pointed out in the other thread it doesn't make a lot of sense as Dallas is only 5M under the cap, still have to pay their rookies and would have to absorb more than that if they trade him from his signing bonus.
His injury history is an issue and why I would hope they would only go with a 4th round pick for him. The talent level and the fit with Rex's D seems to be there so I think it would be a good move at the right price. Dallas takes a $5M+ cap hit so this could effect whether or not they want to move him. His contact calls for $1.8M this year and $2.6M next year so it is very reasonable for a CB giving the Jets time to see if he can pick up his game and be worth re-signing long term.
I agree. Assuming the price isn't a 2nd rounder or something, if it's a 3rd or later I would do it. He may not be great but if we pick a CB on Thursday with the pick there's no way to know if he will be even as good as Claiborne. At least he has a few NFL games under his belt and understands the speed of the game.
wouldnt he be better in our man to man scheme then the cowboys tampa 2 ? id be all for this if it was a day 3 pick...
I'd do the trade and risk that he's a much better CB in man coverage. Unfortunately I think this is a case of some fan speculation being turned into a trade rumor.
Dude is still young and developing... The upside I feel is well worth the risk.. We have two picks in the 4th so give up the regular pick and we use the comp. I'm all for it.. 3rd round not so much.
Claiborne is straight garbage. This guy makes no plays and makes Kyle Wilson look decent. Will never forgot the Eagles game where Riley Cooper made him his bitch.
For a fourth round pick.... It's worth a shot. Especially if Ed reed sticks around in some capacity.. Look at what his presence did for Milliner.
Agreed. I'm not sure what the Cowboys actually want, but I'd give up a 4th for him. The Cowboys are dumb and constantly give up early on players and coaches prematurely. If Kyle Wilson was on the Cowboys he would have been cut / traded 2 years ago and they'd be looking to dump Coples this year. Patience isn't really their strong suit like a lot of Jets fans. Hopefully we can exploit them and lowball them with a 5th rounder.
