My Final 2014's Jet's Mock Draft!!

My decisions on selections were based on need and projecting that the player would be available. Over half of the players visited Florham Park, a big consideration. I don't expect everyone to agree with my selections, I'll try to explain my reasoning. Comments and questions welcome...Thanks Guys!!

    1) KYLE FULLER, CB, VIRGINIA TECH
    - my second rated CB that is "a true football player". More well rounded fundamental player than Gilbert and Dennard. Fuller plays the run, press, cover and an excellent tackler. Missed second half of the season with an injury. Would have been rated higher if he wasn't hurt. Went CB due the extreme need and depth at WR in this draft. I understand some will be upset going defense in rd 1 again, but our secondary is weak in a year we are facing some of the best QBs in the NFL.

    2) JARVIS LANDRY, WR, LSU
    - a tough, physical sure handed receiver. Jarvis' measurables keep him from being drafted higher. Can play special teams and make tackles, isn't afraid to mix it up. I compare him to Older Donald Driver , witout the speed when he was younger. Landry may become the best LSU player from this draft. The round 3 talk is BS, he will be a second rd pick. Idzik was at LSU's pro day & Landry visited in NJ.

    3) SHAYNE SKOV, ILB, STANFORD
    - smart team leader that has been very productive. Harris has hit his peak and Skov would be a perfect replacement. Our depth at LB is marginal and just special team players.

    4) CJ FIEDOROWICZ, TE, IOWA
    - great blocker and is more athletic than given credit. Definitely would help the run game and be a good red zone target. Visited Florham park.

    4) CRAIG LOSTON, S, LSU
    - great in run support and has cover skills.

    4) MICHAEL SCHOFIELD, OT, MICHIGAN
    - can play OT or Guard. Great Senior Bowl week and some feel he was almost as good as Lewan this past year. Drafted a Michigan lineman last year, Jets scouts are aware of Schofield.

    5) LARRY WEBSTER, OLB, BLOOMSBURG
    - Incredible athlete that has the bloodlines. Visited Florham Park.

6)) MIKE CAMPANARO, WR, WAKE FOREST
    - I've had Mike Camp in every Jet's mock and why change. Idzik's kid goes to Wake and Tommy B pick wasn't a coincidence pick last year.

    6) TAJH BOYD, QB, CLEMSON
    - Inconsistent, but has shown to come up big in some big games. Rex connection and visited Florham Park.

    6) JOHN BROWN, WR/KR, PITTSBURG(KANSAS)
    - think TY Hilton clone. Div 2 player that was super productive and great kick returner. I have no issue going 3 Wrs, if one is an all purpose player. Again, visited Florham Park.

    6) DEXTER McDOUGLE, CB, MARYLAND
    - depth at CB and great special teams player. Once again, visited Florham park.

    7) TOM HORNSEY, P, MEMPHIS
    - our punter is below average. I don't mind getting him in Rd 7, you risk losing him to free agancy after the draft.

    Comments welcome!!

Love it. We both have Fuller as our first pick and I to believe he is the second best corner.

Landry would be fantastic. Reliable receiver, could work on his route running but his hands make up for it. Catches anything thrown in his vicinity.

Shayne Skov is also a great pick. He draws similarites to David Harris, so it's kind of like us dumping Harris for his younger brother. Great sideline to sideline speed, plays with passion.

CJ is another great pick. Big bodied, soft hands for his size. Runs good routes, good blocker.

Loston is good for safety depth. Don't see him starting immediately he will benefit from Ed Reed's knowledge.

Don't like Boyd but I do think we will take him. We have met with him on several ocassions.

    Overall fantastic job.

    My thoughts

    - Cool with the Fuller pick. Don't know about Landry though I love the player....Idzik goes for BPA and its tough to imagine with an Attoachu or ASJ or Amaro that he takes Landry. Maybe if it was Jordan Matthews, its a different story but if we say traded down and then got Landry, that would make a load of sense.

    - Skov offers exactly what Bart Scott brought to the Jets when he signed on with the team so its plausible Rex might fall in love. My issue here is I wonder if the injuries he's sustained have taken a toll on his speed, where I think he isn't a 3 down LBer. He might be like what Bart Scott was for the Jets from 09-10 but lets hope that it isn't the Scott of 11 and 12 because his coverage worries me when transitioning to the pro level. He is a very good run stopper but I want more than that with a valuable 3rd round pick.

    - LOVE the Fiedorowicz pick....if anything though, I would swap CJ into round 3 for us and make Skov the team's first 4th round pick because its really tough to see Fiedorowicz last by round 4, especially if ASJ/Niklas/Amaro all go in early to mid round 2. There's a serious shot Fiedorowicz doesn't even make it to round 3.

    - Loston is terribly underrated and its because of his injury that he's seen what used to be a round 2 lock now have him fall to day 3. Would be absolutely up for taking him by then. I like the OT/OG hybrid rather than use a pick on a guard and tackle....makes good sense.

    - Can't say I have seen a lot of Webster though the speed he contains is very promising. I think he might be a bit of a project though so its tough to expect year 1 he contributes and I think the OLB spot might be one where we want a ready guy who can at least get to the passer. He's the prototype for the pure pass rushing OLB though.

    - Would be very happy if Campanaro was there by round 6, the only worry with him is injuries. Other than that, he seems like the ideal no.4 WR for a team. Might not be a playmaker but someone worth having on the depth charts low I feel.

    - Not a fan of Boyd and I prefer to not really go with a QB in this draft as I like Matt Simms as the no.3. Much rather we grab another safety. Johnathan Dowling, the ex Gator who got kicked off for disagreement with his secondary coach was very good for Western Kentucky and he might be had by round 5 or 6....would really be all over him maybe to start round 6 if he's there. Think he can be a very solid safety in the NFL and our coaching staff would mesh well with him.

    - Brown is fine if he's a special teamer though that might make Campanaro expendable. Can't say I know too much of McDougle and I'd have zero qualms if we used a late 6th round pick on either KVDK or Hornsey.

Not a bad draft at all.....what I get from these 12 picks is there's a serious shot we may trade up for a Dee Ford or someone by round 2. Something like that. Don't know if all 12 picks will make it to our roster which is why I can see 2 of those picks in a trade up in round 2 or 3 for someone we like who has fallen.

    Thanks WW

I will keep an eye on these players for sure. Also thanks for posting your top 5 for each position. I will use it as my guide during the draft.

Now only if Stokes did a mock.

I like the first two picks a lot here. Fuller is one of my favorites and I love the way he plays the ball. One thing with him is Im not sure if he's the greatest fit for Rex's scheme, but I think his ability would make him a good player despite that. Love Landry and his hands. Probably the best hands in the draft. I love him as a player, but I would like to see someone more dynamic added at the position, but if we dont address it in round 1, I think most of those dynamic players are gone (Beckham, Cooks, Lee). I love both players, but Im not sure if they'll be BPA at those picks. I think they have solid value at each pick, and they are ranked in my eyes fairly close to where we are drafting, but I think someone will slip that may cause us to look elsewhere- although thats not something you can really predict.

Dont really like the Skov pick. I just dont think he has the athleticism of speed of what NFL defenses are looking for now. He's a great throw back player like David Harris, but even he has looked out of place in todays NFL. Also, I personally just dont see them addressing ILB this early in the draft. The only front 7 player that visited the Jets was Demarcus Lawrence. I know pre draft visits arent the end all be all, but its telling IMO of what areas they are looking at.

CJ is a good pick in the 4th. A forgotten man in the TE class but he has some very good tools for a all around TE. Schofield impressed me at the SR bowl and Loston would be a good day 3 pick.

Definitely good thought and effort being put into this. Personally not a fan of all the picks but don't hate it either,

I really like the collection of players, though I hope you have a backup plan for Skov in the third.

I'd be very sad if Fuller was gone before the Browns 26. Love him.

    Real nice mock.

  9. I don't see any reaches or head shakers. All solid football player types. Really like the Webster & Brown picks. I would be disappointed to not see alittle more speed/explosion. That's the biggest need overall as a unit. While all of these players are adequate physically, none i would classify as explosive. In that regard I don't see much of that here.

Brown is an explosive player, he had the second best 40 time, next to Cooks. TY Hilton Clone!!!

It's hard to argue with the positions you targeted and when you looked to pick them, even if I might pick different guys. I especially like the idea of getting an inside linebacker in the middle rounds because there's no depth and Harris could be on his way out next year.

If I could change one pick, I'd take Trey Millard (FB, Oklahoma) instead of Campanaro. If the Jets are getting competition for things like punting and returning kicks, I would think they would get legitimate competition for Bohanon considering he won his job last year by default through Hilliard's injury. Meanwhile, the wide receivers would be Decker/Landry/Kerley/Nelson/Ford with Hill, Brown, Dwight Jones, and Greg Salas fighting for a roster spot that may not even be available.

Really like the versatility in this draft. Not a huge CB @ 18 guy, but if it's going to be someone - let it be Fuller, the kid makes smart plays and can play man or zone. Boyd is an interesting selection, I grew up actually hanging out with Boyd, my rents showed me a picture the other day I was shocked. I do believe Loston's cover skills are questionable, I like Ed Reynolds more as a true free safety. I still really like this draft. Awesome job WW.

I am coming around to the idea of a CB in round 1. Dennard and Fuller likely have a much better chance of not flaming out compared to any of the WRs we might pick in round 1. Not to mention as others have pointed out the dropoff in CB talent is much bigger and we can still get very good WRs in round 2 or 3. At this point I think I think there are 6 candidates for our #18 pick. Dennard, Fuller, ODB, Cooks, Ebron and the darkhorse of Zach Martin

I also agree that round 6 is a likely choice for a QB with a guy like Boyd or Renner being a good candidate for round 6. I have no problems with a punter in round 7 would be nice to finally have a decent punter especially with our ground and pound style of play. I would also agree with the likelihood of using one of our 4th round picks on an OL if not earlier. I think a versatile guy like Schofield or Tiny Richardson makes a lot of sense. I would expect Idzik to do what Seattle did and focus on building the lines 1st.

Nice work on the mock I really enjoyed reading it. :)

I like it, only 2 spots I would change, instead of Landry I think Mathews, and instead of Boyd I think Zak Mettenberger.

    Nice job WW.

I like it with the exception of Landry in the 2nd. I think he's a good WR and will probably have a good NFL career as a possession receiver. However, the Jets need a playmaker on the outside and Idzik is on record as preferring dynamic offensive playmakers. I don't know who that would be but I don't think it would be Landry.

Not bad, I love a few picks Landry, Campanaro and Loston specifically. Others not so much...

Why Skov? I think our 3rd would be better served with a FS/TE/G with that pick... Harris and Davis will start and Skov would sit or be a ST player.. Not sure that pick works... I think if we take a ilb it will be later.

I think Boyd is a possibility but because they were so public with how many times they met and Rex's connection to Clemson I think it was a bit of a smokescreen...

I like it. I wouldn't say Schofield was at all just as good as Lewan this year, but I'd still like to draft him. I think he's more of a 5th rounder (or later) than a 4th, but when it's only a 1 round difference late in the draft it's really just semantics. If you like the guy, you take him.

    Good work.

Instead of the second coming of Milliner or Wilson you mean? Our other 1st round CB picks.

I have a friend, who I respect, that is a huge Michigan fan and he mentioned to me Schofield played on par with Lewan this past season. It's clear, Lewan is the better talent and has a much higher ceiling, but Schofield played very well for Big Blue.
