For Michael Vick, eight is good enough. The veteran quarterback, who has worn No. 7 since high school, has decided to wear No. 8 with the New York Jets. Vick said when he signed last month he wasn't interested in taking No. 7 from Geno Smith, declaring, "Geno is going to wear No. 7. I'm changing my number." Vick used social media to help him with his decision, tweeting Sunday that he wanted fans to help him choose between No. 8 and No. 3. On Monday morning, Vick took to Instagram to announce the choice, showing a picture of him wearing No. 8 in a white Jets uniform and writing, "I want to see everybody in there MV8 jerseys this year. I appreciate all the fans that helped. Fresh start..new me! #JetsNation #GangGreen #V8". However, the photo appeared to be removed from his Instagram account as of Monday evening. Vick, who wore No. 7 at Virginia Tech and with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles, will be the seventh player in Jets history to wear No. 8. The last was Mark Brunell, another left-handed passer who backed up Mark Sanchez in 2010 and 2011. The Jets have another pending number decision involving Chris Johnson. The recently signed running back wore No. 28 for six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, but that number isn't an option. It was retired by the Jets to honor Hall of Famer Curtis Martin.
Man the news has been so slow....a thread for Vicks number change?you know there's nothing to talk about when this ends up a thread

Quigley might be able to get a steak dinner out of it, rough living off that 2nd year vet. min. of $495,000
Hi Watermeister, While Quigs' is a nice B.C. kid, watching him hit his first two punts up at Cortland last year (bricks that hooked w/no 'hang time' - it looked like something out of Div. 1-AA) ……. and culminating a week later during the "green vs. white" game just before camp broke upstate, it was apparent that the Chi. Bears-by-way-of-Boston College castoff's "leg" wasn't imho on par with Robert Malone's, and not surprisingly, Quigley was cut. Then Malone suffered a muscle pull (which the Jets hid) just prior to the first game up in New England which resulted in a so-so game on his part and the TGG post-game peanut gallery calling for Malone's head (or 'leg') ….not to mention the fact that the Jets' kick off and punt returners that evening didn't have an e'ffin' clue - killing any chance to establish any comparable field position). Right after Malone (and his pulled muscle) was released by the Jets after that 1st game up in New England and Quigley was re-signed, I recall Westy citing Quigley's strength as a "directional punter" which I thought was kind of curious vis-a-vis Malone given the fact that Malone's strength was also as a "directional punter" coming out of Fresno State; that is, a directional punter with (mano-a-mano) a bigger 'leg' than Quigley. And, I also got to see Malone up close warming up on the sidelines (Rutgers-Fresno St. game) prior to him entering the NFL, fwiw. on-topic: Vick wearing #1 is a better visual fit than him wearing #8, imho …. frankly, who cares? He isn't--and never was--Warren Moon (#1) nor Troy Aikman or Steve Young (#8). …..and when is this @!#%$*& NFL draft gonna take place, already?!
