I miss the good old days of Chad. If only he stayed healthy.. Him, and C-Mart were the biggest reasons I started following the Jets. I can't wait for this draft even more now!
he will probably blowout his shoulder at the podium and be out till the 7th round. i kid of course. what could have been if he would have stayed healthy.
Well done Jets, very good move. Man what could have been. Named my golden retriever Penny after him. _
Yeah I always saw him as more of a coach rather than a TV analyst/color commentator. Would love to see him on the staff, even if it's just for camp. _
Glad there are no hard feelings after we kicked him to the curb for Brett Favre. He was legit as hell, obviously injuries held him back.
2003 - Lost his RG Randy Thomas to free agency and fractured his wrist. 2004 - Shoulder injury. 2005 - Lost his RT McKenzie to free agency, the line got old and the shoulder got rolled. 2007 - Adrien Clarke. Let's line up the OL's he played with and then look at his career: 2002 - Fabini, Machado, Mawae, Thomas, McKenzie 2003 - Fabini, Szott, Mawae, Smith, McKenzie 2004 - Fabini, Kendall, Mawae, Moore, McKenzie 2005 - Jones, Goodwin, Kendall, Moore, Fabini 2006 - Ferguson, Kendall, Mangold, Moore, Clement 2007 - Ferguson, Clarke, Mangold, Moore, Clement Every season he played except 2004 and 2006 there was at least one below replacement value OL in front of him. The Jets averaged 2 new starters on the OL each season he played for them.
One of his earlier games he had the most consecutive pass completions in NFL history. Can't remember the number but it was around 20-ish completions in a row. Good guy. Can't picture him eating a hot dog on the bench. He had a very accurate string of spaghetti for a right arm!
Guy was a warrior for sure. A not selfish player and always gave everything he had. A shame about all the injuries.
Agreed, and glad to see the Jets doing something for Chad. rambling: …I recall his rookie year in camp and Coach Herm (referring to Chad's 'cerebral' tentiveness at first) remarking that Chad's got to learn to just "let it go." Another thing: Pennington at his best could pull off a play fake with the best of 'em, sometimes "selling it" so beautifully to the point that he'd completely (and courageously) turn his back away from the line of scrimmage altogether after carrying out his play fake and then continue to 'carry through' with his fake….before turning around to throw the pass. My lame Chad Pennington story: I once read an interview in which the young Kentuckian out of Marshall U. said that one of his "guilty pleasures" was to go to a Cracker Barrel restaurant and order up the "Hungry Man" breakfast special. Well, I looked it up and saw that there was one (at the time) NYS location in Dutchess County in the Wappinger Falls/Poughkeepsie neck o' the woods (approx. an hour from Westchester). Talked the wife into accompanying me on a Saturday morning Cracker Barrel "Hungry Man" jaunt ….. I owed her after that …..turns out it "wasn't ain't worth travelin' for" (i.e. compared to your Metro area greasy-spoon Greek dinner) : )
I forgot about Penny's play action fakes....best in the NFL. Any yeah, turning his back to the O-line and standing there while the defense chased down the 'ball' carrier. Perfect. Cracker Barrel? there's nothing about that over priced Denny's chain that's worth the trip. True story.
Chad is still my favorite Jet ever. You guys talking about his play fakes are correct: they were amazing. He was as smart as Peyton Manning, play action as good as Manning if not better, but his body failed him. Sad.
