Lol to ask this question you must not be very familiar with NFL players. Is it possible McCoy believes is the better QB at his very foundation? Yes. Is it possible his friendship with Vick had didn't effect the answer to this question? No. Is it possible that McCoy would have answered this question any differently in 10 trillion alternate universes? No. Vick might start, sure, but the point is why is this a topic of discussion when we all could have guessed McCoy's answer on my favorite cocktail, V3: 1 part Vodka, 1 part Vicodin, 2 parts virility pills.
I don't agree with that, players in the NFL are famous for keeping school rivalries after they go pro. I think I remember during Hard Knocks that Mangold (Ohio St) and another player (Michigan) went back and forth with pranks or hazing or something.

But I think the idea that McCoy would trash Geno simply because he played for WVU is kind of stretching it, he's sticking up for his friend first and foremost, the school rivalry thing is probably just icing on the cake.
It's like Geno said on the air with Michael and Don yesterday afternoon.

"If you call up and ask Tavon, he'll probably say me."

He might not ever end up being the franchise QB, but he is a smart guy and has the correct political answer fairly often.

Lol. My point, that I failed to make sufficiently clear, is that McCoy's "opinion" very likely reflects his true belief and is not necessarily based on personal bias. His public "response" to the question, OTOH, is another matter entirely, of course, although I don't believe his words would have been as emphatic had he not truly believed them, bias or no bias. In purely objective terms, however, since there is no comparison at this point in the ability levels between Vick and Smith, McCoy's response can easily be construed as being absent of any existing bias arising out of their friendship simply because his statements were true. Anyone who can't see this must not be very familiar with the game of football. ;)

That may be true. It also may be true that McCoy really knows very little about Smith as an NFL quarterback today. Who thinks McCoy has studied Smith beyond what we all see on ESPN?

Even if the most expert review and frame by frame, detailed analysis was performed of every single play in Smith's career thus far, at best, any such assessment could only yield the conclusion that the "possibility" or potential exists for Smith to become a better QB than Vick in the future. However, based on the facts which rationally must be drawn from a direct comparison of their respective strengths, weaknesses, experience, stats, performances on the field, achievements and overall body of work, Vick is, in objective terms, the superior QB right now. And, at this stage in their careers, it doesn't take any extensive study by McCoy or anyone else to make the same conclusion. Whoever thinks Smith is the better QB right now, I'd sure as hell like to hear some logical reasons why. Does Smith have the potential to be better? Maybe. He will have every opportunity to prove himself as the man for the starting job this Summer. But in order to win the job, he will have to have made major strides.

At the moment, the CS is supporting Smith with public statements indicating he will be the starter as they very well should do so as not to risk wounding his confidence going into camp. I further believe the FO/CS would prefer Smith to win the starting slot this Summer by upping his game. In the end, however, barring any major surprises or injuries, I have little doubt that Number 7 will be #2 on the QB depth chart, and Number 1 (The Player Formerly Known as #7 and Less Widely Known as #8) will be the #1 QB on the Jets....

If didn't keep his mouth shot and open his mouth that's what I'd expect he'd say.
