http://nypost.com/2014/05/01/ex-cowboys-executive-brandt-manziel-is-best-player-in-draft/ Q: Where do you think the Jets are headed in the first round? A: The common answer is that the Jets will draft a wide receiver, but there’s a lot of receivers in this draft. The receiver you could get in the second or third round is going to be a lot better than the cornerback you are going to get in the second or third round. So, if it’s equal I would take the cornerback. I’ve seen (Jets general manager ) John Idzik everywhere getting ready, pro days and the sort. I think that they will have a good draft. I certainly don't have the resume of Gil Brandt, but I don't agree with his comment. I think there are some very good corner prospects in the 1st but there are potentially some star receivers. I would prefer Lee/Cooks and Roby/Desir over Dennard and Robinson/Matthews.
I assume he means good filthy. He is a very talented player, but is inconsistent. He has some attitude/off the field concerns, but nothing you'd ever consider "filthy." So judging from what his upside is, I have to assume he means good filthy.
Edit: Might as well also post the thread that started the whole GH house of cards tumbling down. http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/okay-if-no-one-else-is-going-to-say-it-i-will.54146/ Byz called him out and was right on
I think you misunderstood his point. If we were to draft a corner in the 1st and WR in the second, you'll have a better team than drafting a WR in the 1st and a corner in the 2nd. The difference in talent level between the corners is far greater than the difference in talent levels for the wide receivers. Drafting a corner 1st and a WR 2nd, you'll have acquired more talent than the other way.
"Flame away, fuckheads." Laughed my ass off back then .... and laughed my ass off all over again. Thank you.
that may be true but the best wr available will do more for the offense than the best cb will do for the defense. All things equal the strength and weaknesses of the team should be considered along with the depth of the draft
I very strongly disagree with this statement. A CB with press man ability is far more useful to the Jets than a WR in a run first offense.
A game breaking wr would do more for this team than a man cb. Making a bad offense good would do more for this team than making a good defense great. Disclaimer:I am not advocating taking a wr or cb no question asks. Merely if all things are equal
I disagree. Who reaches maximum potential in this scenario? Calvin Johnson on a run first offense with a young QB, or Darrelle Revis on a shutdown man coverage defense? I think the answer is clear. If Geno becomes a top 10 QB, a game-breaking WR becomes invaluable, but for now you get more value out of solid WR's who can block well than a game breaker.
