Ha, or I'm one of those fans that pays attention to the game and not a name and sees that Holmes was never a great player, not even with the Steelers. What I do believe is that this assessment of Greene is much better than your first. No one should ever seek out contact as an NFL RB. That's just stupid.

Seeking out contact was a manner of speaking, I didn't mean he's a linebacker taking the fastest angle to a hit. Greene doesn't have the lateral movement abilities that a lot of RB's do, the god given gifts that got him to the NFL simply did not include dodging fast players, it included his power and core strength that allowed him to overpower most would be tacklers. He should take available yards, but people have this idea that yards available to some RB's with lateral movement abilities are equally as available to Greene in an identical situation. As I said, my evaluation at the moment is only based on the games from 2009, 2010, and half of 2011. I am watching the rest of the games as we speak, but my main dispute is with people who claim Greene's only good year was 2009.

As for Holmes, he was a great player. He has so much hidden yardage from penalties that people don't realize. He was constantly incurring PI calls and holding calls because his beautifully run routes got CB's off balance. People would say he always whines for calls, but the truth is he actually generates more penalties than the average WR. People make this mistake of comparing him to the elite WR's of today, most of which are big and strong and catch a ton of balls, even if a lot of them are just short passes. Holmes caught a lot of touchdowns, and saying he wasn't a great WR even with the Steelers is just ignorant. He won the SB MVP for more than just one catch, and in 2009 he amassed 1,248 yards. In 2010, he missed 5 games but still gained 746 receiving yards, which is on pace for over 1,ooo yards again. He caught 14 touchdowns for us over the course of 2010 and 2011, and that is good production. It's not his fault he had a career ending type of injury in less than 4 games into 2012, but the yards he had through those 4 games had him on pace for another 1,000 yard plus season.

People just want to rip on Holmes because it's the popular thing to do, but he was actually one of the most exciting players we had. He was a major factor in our 3 playoff games in 2010.

You clearly have a much lower standard for greatness than the typical fan.

I think I just have more reasonable expectations than the typical fan. In fact I value myself greatly for not being a typical fan.
