I agree about the sustaining the salary structure but he could have filled the holes much better. Decker is a product of the system and QB. I don't think his skill set transfers to various systems. Idzik is the best GM the Jets has had in a long time after ONE year? Wow just wow that is the statement of all statements especially with the Jets long history. We are talking Idzik right the person that has not held a GM position in the NFL ever? A GM with one draft under his belt LOL. You must be related to him.
Decker's not a product of the system and the QB. His performance levels the last couple of years are right in line with what you would expect based on his established performance level in college. Look at it this way: how many guys has Peyton Manning thrown to over the years who had great seasons with him and had not already either had great seasons before or would have great seasons again after he left Indy? It's not like Manning made people great. He's an extremely efficient and accurate distributor of the ball but he hasn't turned any 50 catch guys into 80 catch guys unless you believe Decker is the first guy he ever did that with. Decker caught 80+ balls at Minnesota with a guy definitely not in Manning's league distributing the ball.
Reggie Bush is a bust? Granted, he may not have necessarily lived up to the #2 overall pick, but he's had a good career, and his last 3 seasons have been great. Robert Woods had a decent first year for the Bills, and he should get better. Point is, quit your blind hatred for USC just because there have been busts there in the past.
You are not getting an argument out of me w/ regards to Lee. There have been many of successful WRs that were not natural hands catchers. Lee's biggest problem is that his down year was his last year. In the what-have-you-done-for-me lately world of the NFL draft, that's a big no no. Sammy Watkins's did it right; he got his down season out of the way in his sophomore year and saved his best for last. Sammy's most productive season is still short of Lee's best. Lee even had a sightly more productive poor season. Note Watkins was not hindered by nagging injuries and poor QB play when he had his 1 dud of a season. Sammy Watkins G REC YDS AVG TD 13 82 1219 14.9 12 10 57 708 12.4 3 13 101 1464 14.5 12 Marqise Lee G REC YDS AVG TD 12 73 1143 15.7 11 13 118 1721 14.6 14 11 57 791 13.9 4 The things I like most about Lee are the intangibles. Like Jerry Rice you get the feeling that whatever parts of his game are considered weaknesses now he will work on them until they ultimately become strengths. Also, IMO he is the one guy of the top WRs I feel brings a true #1 mentality. Unfortunately for him, there's no workout drill that measures that.
Brother...you're trolling now. Back up your comments. I can name some outstanding players that came out of USC and some bad ones...just like any other College team.
Lol make sure you don't fucking disappear when Ford is throwing down 10+ sacks a year, you clearly don't know what the fuck you talking about if Ford doesn't have enough speed for OLB.
Wow, just wow. LOL Name one better in the last 20 years. Yes, he's done a better job, in cleaning up a cap mess, and in handling a tough situation, giving the team respectability, and professionalism. Tanny was awful. Bradway was awful. Parcells was pretty awful both in terms of the cap, leaving the team with old, over-the-hill overpaid players, and with the draft. I don't remember who was GM before them. Steinberg? Kotite? You need to go back and look at the Jets's sorry history. They've had some of the worst drafts in the history of the NFL. Roger Vick, Dave Cadigan, Mike Haight, the list goes on and on.
Mike Haight...Alittle before my time ..but I've always wondered what the backstory was w/ him in terms of him being a bust? One of the old timers wanna fill me in? The only footage I've ever seen of him was against the Giants in the infamous win back in 88 & he didn't look bad at all. What was the deal?
He went to Iowa, I think. He was a huge reach if I recall. He had chronic back issues and just wasn't that good. I think he may have missed a number of games and wasn't that effective when he did play. He wasn't awful, but was way overdrafted. I think he was a 1st round pick. He wasn't as big a bust as Cadigan, if I recall. Perhaps someone can better respond.
Height was a reach not a bust. Just not first round material. But he was better than David Williams who was a OT 2nd round pick who didn't make it out of training camp.
Kotite was by far the worst. Every GM has their hits and misses. Even the great ones like Gil Brandt and the man who was the greatest GM ever Bill Walsh had turds. Bill had less than others in my view and built championships. Two players the Jets turned down Ronnie Lott and Jerry Rice Walsh took them. The best Jets GM I would have to say was Mike Hickey. Drafted Lyons, Gastineau, Hector, Alexander, McNeil, Mehl and Powell but really blew it by taking O'Brien over Marino.
Parcells you have to give a little more credit. He signed Curtis Martin away from the Pats. Weakening a division foe and improving our team at the same time. Dumped Keyshawn for a first round and made history by having 4 first round pick. Those picks were Ellis, Abraham, Pennington and Becht. Becht was the only bust. He got Vinny T playing his best ball ever.
Agreed. If Decker catches 80+ passes it is because he got open that many times. Manning does not have the arm strength to stick it into a small space anymore. Now, if Decker plays with a bad QB, those numbers will drop, of course, because the bad QB will not grind him.
I like Beckham, but: only 7 reps on the bench press? That might give me pause if we're talking the #18 overall pick. Is the guy strong enough? Does he have an NFL body that can withstand the punishment? Look at Tavon Austin. He really struggled getting off press coverage his rookie year.
If the Rams are using Austin from spots where he can be pressed they are definitely doing something wrong. He should be lining up in the slot and the backfield and never put in a position where anybody can put their hands on him before he gets off the scrimmage line. He's quick enough that if you line him up a couple of yards off the LOS it's going to be very hard for anybody to lock him down.
No, I don't. Go back and look at his drafts (or see them below). Look at his 2nd round busts and other misses. I was never a CuMar fan. He was a solid RB, but not great. The Jets' offense was limited by him and revolved around him by far too long. I guess he gets some credit for trading Keyshawn, but wasn't he the one who drafted Keyshawn in the first place. If so, he was just cleaning up his own mess. Getting Vinny to play his best ball was Parcells the HC, not Parcells the GM. Here's Parcells draft legacy with the Jets: 1996 (not sure if this was Parcells, but think it was. If so, it was arguably his 2nd best draft) (busts/wasted picks bolded) 1 - Keyshawn Johnson 2 - Alex Van Dyke 3 - Ray Mickens 5 - Marcus Coleman 6 -Hugh Hunter 7 - Chris Hayes 1997 1 - James Farrior 2 - Rick Terry 3 - Dedric Ward 4 - Terry Day 4 - Leon Johnson 5 - Lamont Burns 5 - Raymond Austin 6 - Chuck Clements 7 - Steve Rosga 7 - Jason Ferguson 1998 2 - Dorian Boose 3 - Scott Frost 3 - Kevin Williams 4 - Jason Fabini 5 - Casey Dailey 5 - Doug Karczewski 5 - Blake Spence 6 - Eric Ogbobu 6 - Chris Brazzell 6 - Dustin Johnson 7 - Lawrence Hart 1999 2 - Randy Thomas 3 - David Loverne 4 - Jason Wiltz 5 - Jermaine Jones 6 - Marc Megna 6 - JP Machado 7 - Ryan Young 7 - JJ Syvrud 2000 1 - Shaun Ellis 1 - John Abraham 1 - Chad Pennington 1 - Anthony Becht 3 - Laveranues Coles 5 - Windrell Hayes 6 - Tony Scott 7 - Richard Seals
1996 was Kottite's draft. Parcells also bought stability, respectability and a professionalism that was sorely missing from the Jets. So in my view that is worth more than drafts and free agent pick-ups. He also bought back the Jets 60's version uniforms dumping those horrible 90's version uniforms.
You can go ahead and unbold Becht unless you want to look stupid. He was one of the most dominant blocking TEs of the past couple of decades and a big part of the yardage that got Curtis into the HOF.
Some mocks now including Indiana's Cody Latimer as a top 25 pick. Definitely a late riser..mostly due to not running at the combine & running well at his pro day(4.42?). What do you guys think of him as a first rounder? Before labeling him a work out warrior solely for the late rise in value..Javon Walker,Roddy White among others have had similar runs to the 1st round within acouple weeks of the draft. The position often lends itself to it.
