I think Garoppolo is the Nassib of this draft. Media is projecting him to go higher than he actually will IMO. I don't see a quality starter at the next level for Jimmy G and wouldn't be surprised if he gets drafted after Mettenburger, Murray, McCarron and Savage.

Maybe Savage and Mettenberger but I doubt McCarron or Murray would go before him.

Problem with drafting a QB every year until you find your franchize prize is it takes too much time to even find out....sometimes a few seasons. There's just not enough playing time to 'try out' a new QB every year. Shit, Geno's had an entire training camp and 16 game regular season and we still don't have a fn clue about him.

Probably drafting a lesser known QB that seems to have upside in the 4th-5th round and let him simmer on low heat for a few years to see if he's able to mature and develop in the background is a pretty good option.

Drafting a QB every year doesn't mean that you do it in the first three rounds, but if you don't have an answer, you have to keep trying. Sitting around waiting for one guy for 3 to 4 years to prove himself rarely works nowadays.

You may be right but we just have no idea about when Qbs will be drafted. There's a chance one of the "big 3" Qbs winds up being drafted in the 2nd round. If someone falls, everyone else will fall too.

Or saying, "hey if we suck this year we can just go get Mariota or Winston next year".

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Right, and if we do manage to get JG he probably would have an immediate impact. In that case, it might be wiser to trade Geno since we have/getting a WR with all things being equal. Again, not sure what Jets are up to having him visit unless we are secretly giving up on Smith but that doesn't seem likely since GS was picked by Idzik

It's a great plan, one that's been used for decades by every team in the league until recently when it's become "win now at any cost". There have been very few (duh!) rookies like Wilson, Luck or Marino who can walk in the door as a rookie, absorb the playbook and learn how to handle the speed of the NFL their first season. It wasn't even expected of them unless it was an emergency (injury) or an expansion team like Houston with David Carr (and how'd that work out?). Sadly, I don't think any of the impatient folks here would sit back and let anyone develop for at least a year or two. I'm no expert and I don't know Gino's future, but can anyone honestly say he's NOT the man based on what we've seen? Should we have dumped Namath after throwing at least 3 interceptions in a game 4 times in both his second and third seasons, '66 and '67?

I'd rather have Murray than Garoppolo although both seem to be out of the Jets likely draft range unless the Jets have decided to move on from Geno Smith.

Garoppolo played at Eastern Illinois. Murray played at Georgia. There's no comparison between their exposure to high quality college competition at this point. I don't dislike Garoppolo as a prospect but if I'm looking for the next guy to come out of college and really over-achieve in the NFL I'm going to go with the SEC record holder for completions, yards and passing TD's.

Murray is not a perfect prospect but he's got more exposure playing pressure football at a high level than anybody else coming out of school this year. He's the kind of guy who will be kicking around NFL depth charts for a decade. The question is whether he can adapt to the NFL game and really shine or whether playing well in the SEC was his ceiling.

I would say Murray is going to be a terrible NFL QB, but he's not even going to get that chance.

He is a bum, plain and simple. In 2 or 3 years he will be out on the street looking for work as a 3rd string scrub. I can't believe all the arm chair GMs on this site talking highly of him -- are we watching the same games??? and I really hope our Jets don't waste a pick on him, simply because I don't want to waste any draft picks...

I don't know anything about Garappolo and I'm not going to claim to know anything about him unlike tons of people who haven't seen him play and yet still trash him. The only thing I will say is I will not hold where he went to school against him. That's unfair.

Idzik should subscribe to the Ron Wolf theory of taking a QB every year. You never know you might be able to unload one for some draft picks.

Do you even know what it would cost to move up into the top 3 from the 18th spot?

Yeah it would cost a lot. Our 18th and 2nd or 3rd round pick and maybe our 1st rd pick next year. Atlanta did a trade like that for Jones and look how that working out. He one of the best WR in NFL.

That sounds like a great way to decimate a roster in today's NFL. No thanks Tanny.
