Garrapolo, Boyd, Thomas.. Given the time spent evaluating these guys, you have to assume rounds 2 or 3 the Jets could pull the trigger and take a QB. Which I think is a good thing, add a rookie to push Geno up or out. Thomas looks interesting.
http://grantland.com/features/how-tell-which-nfl-draft-picks-truly-valuable/ Jimmie Garoppolo visits Jets today. Here is his Gruden interview. This guy broke all Tony Romos at EI. Not saying to get him Round 1 but Idzik knows we can't have enough cheap talent: feet don't stop moving, does all his reads fast and an accurate passer. Who knows?
Absolutely. Would be very dumb to not keep him especially since we are dealing with so many unknowns. Simms relieved Sanchez and Geno last year with some awesome games : http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ir-shot-at-the-new-york-jets-starting-qb-spot
I posted the following below in prior thread in the draft forum: I'll add that Morris's blend of arm talent and athleticism fits right in w/ what we already have with Vick and Geno. We would not have to alter the playbook if/when he ever had to come in.
Changing my initial post to a question. Does the Jets bringing in multiple QB's mean they intend to pick one of them? Or is it just due dilligence or even a ploy? I would think they are serious about grabbing one considering the importance of the position and the perfomance of Geno last year, which was a mixed bag at best.
Probably gonna get torn for this but I think Connor Shaw could be really good in this league. If we could get him in the sixth or seventh round he could be a steal.
I've been a pretty big supporter for Boyd, so I'd love to see him, or even Jimmy G in the late rounds.
I guess it's always a possibility they draft a QB in the later rounds this year, but I'm thinking the main goal here is to surround Geno with some decent offensive weapons and see what we actually have in him. Vick sure ain't the future of the franchise, so if it all goes down the crapper this season after giving Geno a better offense than last year, we'll probably be in the market for a QB in 2015 FA or draft.
Cimini lists some of the Draft visits by position. It doesnt list Tahj Boyd so maybe that was a wrong report (or Cimini missed that one, shocker) http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/je...its?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter This shows what we all know, WR and Defensive Backfield are priorities, with TE, QB and LB also of interest. Interesting they haven't brought any offensive linemen in but they have a few slots left to get to 30 visits. I still believe they will be drafting a QB, and I would guess earlier rather than later. Thats my call.
I'm not all that high on Morris. I've seen him play for several years. Early on, I thought he was going to be a stud, but he just has never put it all together imo. As a mid-round pick, I'd be fine with him however, and I definitely agree that if the Jets take a QB, he needs to be a mobile QB in the vein of Geno and Vick, so the Jets don't have to have a different set of plays for him.
I've always liked Boyd. I watched him a lot last year, he killed my Orangemen, and I've always felt he had a very strong arm, quick release and was very accurate, but all you heard at the combine is how weak his arm was and he was inaccurate, which is just not what I saw. A great athlete, he'd be a very nice pickup later in the draft. His biggest knock, I guess is his height. http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/88174/gruden-qb-camp-tajh-boyd _
Logan Thomas? Please. He's awful, simply awful. He has zero percent chance of making it as a QB. Tim Tebow is 100x better than Thomas is and TEb I liked Boyd myself earlier, but he has had a horrible offseason. Didn't do well at the Sr. Bowl or Combine, or even his Pro Day I think I read. I never thought his accuracy was that bad or his arm that weak, but that's all I've been hearing/seeing lately. I think I'd be just as happy with Boyd as Morris, if not moreso. I've seen more of Boyd. Neither may pan out, or both could. It will be interesting to see what happens!
Apparently he had a pretty strong Pro Day and I think Rex and Idzik were both there. I think Rex's son plays for Clemson. Idk, I can't let the Combine and Senior Bowl trump what he's done for the past 2 years. He's a player. Would not mind drafting him if he's still on the board later in the draft. He'd fit right into a Vick/Smith offensive scheme. _
That is correct JStokes. A lot of people started speculating we might be trying to get Watkins, but really Rex's kid just played there. Last year people talked about Boyd as being a 2nd round pick, maybe even a first, and then he went back to school. I thought he played fine this year again, so him being lower than a 3rd is just mind baffling to me. The whole thing with QBs and where they get drafted just doesn't make sense. I hardly ever heard of Blake Bortles a few months ago, and now he is some surefire top 10 pick? Whatever.
