So, if the Brown's are willing to give up all that... Why not just take him at 4? Why risk someone else getting him AND using up all those assets?
QB with the Browns are a mess, but I didnt' choose who the Browns took at #4, that was based off of a concusses of mock drafts, 11 in total and who the majority of those mocks took for the Browns in round 1. As far as giving up a ton? Did the Browns really give up that much? They gave up 2 third round picks and a 6th and moved down in the 2nd in order to move up 9 spots in the first. In essence the trade up only costs them 2 3rd round picks and they got easily the best WR in the draft at #4. There is debate if Bridgwater is worthy of a top 5 or even top 10 pick, there is no debate that Watkins is worth that and was probably BPA at that point.
When did offensive line become a desperate need? What a wasted draft taking a Tackle and Guard #1 & #2. I could see it in another year if they were both elite. We also drafted a tackle and 2 guards last year. This draft does not address any of the Jets immediate needs.
I like Shazier more than any other pass rusher in the draft not named Clowney, Mack or Barr. I also like Montcrief more than any WR not named Evans or Watkins. As far as TEs go, CJ is the 4th best TE in the draft, but I don't see much difference in his abilities in total vs those of any TE above him not named Ebron. The rest of the draft was BPA based on projected averages of where players are expected to go based on their average player ranking based off of 4 websites, If the draft pick slot available was after the Midpoint on the expected draft position based on that average then I presumed the player likely gone and didn't include him in the mock. Can't draft someone that's expected to be gone based on the computations. A number of those players drafted weren't BPA for the round in question, but based on the system I used to determine availability at a certain point in the round they were the most likely BPA at that draft point.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo more Ohio State linebackers espcially a undersized one. I think I would be physically sick if this happened and I wouldn't watch the 2014 NFL draft again.
I'm not a big combine guy either. Mike Mamula and Vernon Gholston numbers were off the chart now they are poster child's for NFL draft bust's. Game film is the way the go.
Still tiny for a linebacker. Gholston had ZERO sacks in his short football career. Shazier will be smashed by NFL tackles or even a decent size fullback.
Yeah I get that but that is a luxury only playoff teams go off. The Jets are not a playoff team and has some holes to fill that aren't on the offensive line. I sure would like to get in the endzone this year since our defense doesn't garner enough turnovers. We just spent big money on a FA RT from Seattle and where exactly will Lewan play this year? He's not a LT and if both our new RT and our new drafted Tackle are healthy are we going to bench a guy we just spent 18 million for to sit on the bench.
^^^ Taking a tackle & guard at #1 & @#2: Re-read the OP Boozer: rounds #1 & 2 in the opening post involved: 1st round: a WR (Cooks/Lee/OBJ, 2nd round: an OLB (Jeremiah Attaochu) frankly, where the hell are you coming from with that jive above? ^^^ "When did the offensive line become a desparate need? When? Well, to put the current Jet OG "starter-worthy" depth question in perspective: does the name Colin Baxter ring a bell? Does the 2013 Cortland OL 2nd-string mess ring a bell? Did you see Aboushi, Campbell & "2nd string OL" company absolutely spit the bit up close at Cortland let alone during the pre-season games? And, is Willie Colon a guaranteed "go to" guy? ….. considering the fact that Willie Colon's finished 3 conecutive seasons on the injury reserve list? When? Sorry, but not all's well talent-wise nor depth-wise on the interior of the OL. Lastly, Geno's '2014 ribs' thank you for your input.
Fullbacks are a rare commodity in the NFL these days as more and more teams move away from them. Gholston had zero motor and zero talents, but great combine numbers...big deal, what happens on the field tells the story. Shazier is no Gholston. The tackle question is a valid one, but is the other team going to line up 3 or 4 tackles? The Current DL plus Coples is going to tie up the other teams tackles with Double and in the case of Mo possibly triple teams. Shazier is also versatile enough to drop in to coverage and cover a TE, the new vogue of the NFL
It's all about competition, let them who win the positions play the positions. Build depth, build over all strength. Seattle, for instance (and the 49ers) built their teams going BPA when they weren't good teams, you build as talented of a squad as you can though taking the best BPA, worst case scenario you get someone you can trade a year or two down the line, best case scenario you find a stud starter for the next 10 years.
Shazier would only play inside in a 3-4, but I agree about him getting pushed around. It's got nothing to do with Gholston, though. Gholston was a defensive end at Ohio State. Shazier is an undersized 4-3 WLB. Their games are totally different. Shazier is basically Lavonte David with less experience in pass coverage.
Living in Columbus I've seen Shazier's entire career. First, he's a great person, high character Guy. He's slightly undersized, but would be fine in the middle of a 3-4 or outside in a 4-3. Very quick player to react and make the play and makes solid tackles. Plays with 100% effort at all times and a team leader. Anyone comparing him to Gholston is being very myopic. I follow OSU and call it like I see it. I hated Gholston from the begining of his OSU career and knew he would not do well in the NFL. I also dislike Roby, he's a great athlete, but question his football passion and work ethic and he's a slow learner. Carlos Hyde is going to be a force, he's going to be a physical runner hard to bring down.
Still made it through the whole season with out them. Like I said a 1& 2 on a T and G is a waste you can get just as good value later. We just spent 18 mil on a RT. Campbell and Aboyshi are still on the roster I'll take Rex and Idzik evaluation. Let's get to preseason at least to see where they are at there are always roster cuts right before the 1st game. After all we have to be better because Vlad isn't on the roster anymore.
I just don't think Rex put much emphasis on tiny linebackers. he's been here 5 years and hasn't drafted an outside linebacker yet. In fact he's moved Coples there. I don't doubt he's a great person and high character but its not a need for us right. I do like Hyde though and think he will be a solid pro.
I doubt we draft Shazier, we have other concerns. I agree that Jet fans have been begging for a rush OLbB and it has been ignored in the recent drafts. QC wasn't originally drafted to play OLB.
