This kid has a lot of buzz since his pro day. From the scouting reports it seems like he is a player who would fit our system. He kinda reminds me of Braylon Edwards with his size and blocking ability. Curious to see what others think of him. STRENGTHS - 6'3" 215lbs with good frame - PRO-DAY: 4.39 40, 39" vertical, 23 reps (Terry Bradway was present) - aggressive and appears to be an above average blocker - strong hands and attacks the ball with good body control WEAKNESSES - injury prone? - route running - straight line speed doesn't show on film At the ~1:37 mark he makes a nice contested TD vs Dennard.
I'm going to do some more research on him, and I will get back to you with my thoughts. I like that kind of instinct from a WR, catches with his hands while screening the smaller DB. As I mentioned in a previous post, the speed on some of these guys is deceptive, they have it, but because Brandon Cook is so fast( 4.33-40) makes other guys look slow on tape. We have a poster by the name of NC State that will be able to give you a very insightful analysis on this guy. I like Donte Moncrief and Jordan Mathews, if you get a chance to see video on them, you will notice they never get caught from behind once they get behind the secondary.
I did some homework and I can see why he is moving up the charts, I can't say for sure if he is right for the jets at 18, but they may be looking for someone to replace hill and Cody looks like he can be that guy, he is very smooth. I actually think he is more agile than Braylon. What's your opinion?
Personally I think he's kind of stiff and yeah he does not show that speed that he timed at in the games. Really don't see him as a standout player in any respect. I don't understand why he's suddenly shot up all the media boards. I think the guy that everyone is wanting to see in this guy is Devin Street. Big, physical, good hands and really good run after catch skills. JMO.
I'm definitely a fan of Moncrief, have been for a while. There's a few guys I'm really into in the first and a few I'm really into for the second, and Moncrief is one of those guys of the second round variety.
I think he would be a good fit at the right price, like the 4th. Unfortunately he probably won't last that long. I've seen him mocked anywhere from 1st round to 4th. The 1st round pick was from Todd McShay to the Chiefs at #23. That seems wayyyyyyy too high. But I do like how he goes after the ball and his blocking looks above average.
Apparently he didn't play football until his junior year of high school so he's still raw, particularly with route running.
I feel bad for Hill, he came from a program that used him primarily as a blocker and was expected to play as a receiver that came from a spread offense. I don't know who was making these calls at the time but I don't expect this scouting team and Idzik to do the same.
There's a smart way to develop raw players and a dumb way to develop raw players. You can draft them late and develop them in practice, eventually integrating them into your game plan, or you can draft them early and force them into the fire right away. Guess which one we did for Hill?
My opinion is if they took Latimer with the 18th pick then multiple people should be getting fired. That would be a Raideresque reach.
I don't think they will draft him at 18, I think they are just adding to their BPA list for the second and third round.
I totally agree, Steve. I just don't see the fascination with this kid. He doesn't look fast at all, got little or no separation. I saw him do little positive in that video. If the Jets have taken a WR in round 1 or 2 and are looking to add another in say the 4th or 5th round, then he might not be a bad addition, but I can't see that guy getting drafted any higher.
