It will be refreshing if Mo continues to play like a man possessed even though Idzik took a new contract off the table (for now).

Watt gets double teamed all the time. Anybody who thinks Mo is near as good as Watt is just fooling himself.

1 and 2 are inevitable and unavoidable risks in ANY long term deal for ANY player, I'd hope they wouldn't delay a long term deal because of those reasons.

Theres always a chance that the year after a new deal is reached Mo slumps or gets hurt, while I suppose they save themselves some dough if it happens next year theres no use fearing that prospect in the face of having a quality player aboard for a long time, ESPECIALLY if theres future cap savings involved.

If there was an opportunity to have Mo aboard for years at a fair value at the expense of a higher payout this year for instance, i do it. the chance of getting a great player on a discount is worth risking, after all the risks mentioned never go away while an opportunity to lock him up on a certain price DOES each offseason.

what I think is a much better reason to wait is that there isn't a market set to begin with, namely Watt didn't get payed either so its hard to tells what a discount and whats not. (unless its just that OBVIOUS a discount, but thats not happening) Odds are Wilk will make a bit less than Watt and the Jets going ahead and setting a market might bring worse value than anything else so its probably wiser to play follow the leader.

but injuries or declining play in his mid twenties? horrible reasons not to extend him, might as well never have ANY player on anything but a two year prove it deal if thats whats driving their decision making.

There was no contract on the table to be taken off that I was aware of. There were talking about a possible extension but this time of year they generally have other more pressing needs to attend to. After the draft picks are signed they can address the extension then or over the months ahead. I doubt the fact that they needed to exercise the option before May 3rd or lose it will have any bearing on how Wilkerson plays.

    JJ Watt
    Tackels 217 FF 8 Sacks 36.5 Passes Defended 27

    Mo
    Tackles 181 FF 6 Sacks 18.5 Passes Defended 9 Int 1

I would say there a big gap.

Mo is almost as good as Watt, that doesn't mean they are identical players. Mo is even more versatile than Watt, and has near perfect technique for every position on the line. The amazement I get watching Mo's perfection is much like the amazement I got watching Revis' perfection. Enormous physical talent combined with exquisite technique is really something to behold. Seldon is a great player and will only get better, but I have a hard time seeing him becoming as versatile as Mo is. If he does, it's almost not fair to opposing offensive lines.

Comparing career stats is dumb. Watt burst onto the scene, whereas Mo took a little time to become what he is. The rate of development has no bearing on their comparison now, and they are very comparable.

    In 2013 :
    JJ Watt
    Tackles 80 Sacks 10.5 FF 4

    Mo
    Tackles 63 Sacks 10.5 FF 2 INT 1

    Very comparable.

don't just look at raw numbers. know what is asked of them by their defensive systems. watts is allowed to attack alot more than mo is. mo is asked to engage blockers first, and than penetrate.

Derp derp erp, HOF derp. No one was talking about the hall of fame, we are talking about Mo's ability compared with Watt's which right now is quite comparable.

I'm not saying Mo not a beast. I'm just saying JJ better. Everybody on this board would trade Mo for JJ.

Watt, but Mo is hot on his heals. Watt has even better athleticism than Mo, he is 6'5" and has an insane 37 inch vertical, and is very quick. Mo is becoming a true master of technique, and is still a beast of an athlete himself.

and i said the gap isn't as big as you are making it out to be. watch them play and i am not sure mo wouldn't be putting up the same stats in watts role.
