Last season under similar circumstances (with inept Cro and rookie Milliner) Jets opponents were held to less than 24 pts 9 times. We lost 3 of those games: 13-10 to NE, 19-6 to PIT, and 19-3 to BAL. Winning these games would equal 11-5 record. That's ideally.

I'd also argue that with Vick and CJ the first NE would also be a win. To be conservative, let's say it's only 2 extra wins overall with steady 21-24 pts production. This means 10-win season and PO spot.

And this is the way thing stand NOW, before draft and likely upgrade at WE and TE. IMO the reason Vick declined over the past couple of years was because he felt constant pressure to put Eagles on his shoulders. With their shitty D that was the only shot he had at winning. With heavy run support and top-5 defense Vick can relax in the pocket and stop forcing the ball (or run) and just take what Ds will give him. For a veteran QB this should be good for 3 TDs.

EDIT: 4 games losses, missed 1st MIA game.

When you have Chandler jones and Rob Ninkovich rushing from the outside, McCourty playing FS, and Revis, Alfonso Dennard, and Brandon Browner at CB, and Wilfork in the middle I don't think their crying about not signing line backers. There's no reason they can't get a DL like Stephon Tuitt in the draft, or a different LB should they so choose. I'm not saying Mayo, Hightower, or Collins are all stars but all three have played well at times and are just fine in a solid defense like they have.

Last season Pats allowed 4.5 yards per carry on 481 attempts. Keep in mind that most teams played from behind and opted to pass more (589 passing atts). Their rush D did not improve. It might become slightly better after the draft, but 4.5 ypc is huge -- 24th in the league.

By comparison, they allowed 7.0 yards per pass, that's 13th in the NFL. Addition of Revis was overreaction to one game. It was the AFCC game, of course so it's understandable. However 4.5 ypc with no obvious improvements against the run means that everybody and there mother will try running the ball against NE.

Signing CJ is great because it magnifies their glaring weakness and renders their blockbuster "fuck you Jets" signing of Revis ineffective at the very least.

I love this signing. Gives us plenty of depth at RB going into the draft and I think CJ2K will have a massive fucking chip on his shoulder come training camp. Combine him with another guy who thinks he gets no respect in the league in Ivory and you got one hell of a tandem. I also feel very comfortable that in the event of injury, Bilal Powell can get the job done. Idzik is turning this team around for sure. The talent that was in the building this time last year versus this year is unreal.

I REALLY really like this move! Someone tell me...when was the last time we had any form of bona fide "home run" hitter in the default offensive lineup? Make no mistake...CJ2K may not have many years left but he certainly has 2...fantastic signing and not at a bad salary.

I love the move. Now that the backfield is shored up hopefully we can get a TE/WR with our first pick and go into next year with some decent offensive tools.

    Grade from walterfootball.

Jets sign RB Chris Johnson (2 years, $8 million): D Grade
I hope Rex Ryan enjoyed his time coaching the Jets because his fate has been sealed. He will be fired at the end of this season in the wake of the Chris Johnson signing. On the bright side, the Jets are likely to have a top-two selection next spring, as seen here in my 2015 NFL Mock Draft.

This is a terrible signing on so many levels. First of all, Johnson is not a good player. He frequently dances around behind the line of scrimmage and has too many negative runs. He doesn't have his elite speed anymore - he turns 29 in September - so there is no more upside with all of his downside. Johnson is also terrible on third downs because he's atrocious in pass protection. Second, Johnson is an awful person to have in the locker room because he throws his teammates and coaching staff under the bus whenever he struggles. Instead of taking the blame himselves (Emmitt Mock is coming soon!) - most of which he deserves - he spreads it around, creating a horrible vibe.

Third, Johnson, like the quarterback the Jets just signed, is a coach killer. Not only is he bad to have around teammates, as mentioned, but he happens to be an extremely overrated commodity. He's still a big name, so the media will hype up the Jets entering this season. Offseason hype plus regular-season disappointment is a recipe for coaches being fired, so Ryan will be the latest victim of CJ2YPC and the new quarterback.

You are kidding right .... While I am not a big fan of CJ, the man has some decent skills and in no way will his signing hurt the Jets ... You points are a joke ... Why don't you crawl back into your cave .......

That was a quote from walterfootball so not sure why you are giving the poster a hard time. Walter football has some good info but Cherepinsky has always had something against the Jets, Cherepinsky may be a poster here since he is also under the deluded notion that Idzik has no scouting or player evaluation history.

It's not about the Jets with him, it's much more about Pats and some selected players. Analyzing a neutral for him situation he can be quite good. This one is not neutral.

You see, he's got negative hots for Vick, CJ and positive hots for Pats and Giants. So his Jets bashing in logical -- how can a team that got both players he was pissing on for years be good? Predictably, Pats got A grade for Revis from him.

Why is this move getting Rex fired? Saying one player is getting a coach fired is pretty stupid. From a salary standpoint this move doesn't kill us at all and if he is a bad locker room player, I'm sure he's pretty cuttable. The Pats have also taken chances on questionable characters like Corey Dillon, Randy Moss, Aqib Talib, Ocho Cinco, Albert Haynesworth...I didn't hear the same shit from the media.

I think their point was it is going to lead to a losing season causing the Jets to have the next to worst record in the league and thus Rex losing his job.
As far as adding questionable players, you get more leeway when winning

Don't be so sure about it. Walt hendicaps in large part based on the trends. Something like

"Brady coming off a loss when favored by less than 0.23 points, in a West Coast games right after the full moon against coach whose name start with either B, G or H.... covers as astonishing clip of 56%.... Well, it's Harb and 49ers at home right?
    7 units on Brady!!!!"

    is failry common.
