I'd give serious consideration to doing something like 18th and 50th picks to the best WR and TE on the board then bundle our 3rd 4th, and the TB 4th together to trade up for something around the 55th pick to take the BPA G/T and hopefully start him over Winters. Seems unlikely that a legitimate starting OL would be a cap casualty at this point without being overkill so that might be a reasonable way to marginally upgrade the OL for this year and hopefully be a big upgrade moving forward. Then if you absolutely have to take defense based on BPA for 18 or 50, do it and live with a slightly less potent but still more than acceptable offsense and still add plenty of depth with the late rounders and comp picks.

I hope Goodson stays, so long as he can stay out of jail and avoid the hammer from Goodell.

Solid signing and reasonable contract. Excited to see what CJ has left.

I'm almost certain you said something like 'I'd give Idzik plenty of leeway with my support and move on from there if he chooses to make a major move WRT a potential Jackson signing' but if you absolutely insist you never said something like that I'll go and dig it up for you at a later time.

I dug and didn't find it. You're free to look if you want.

I'll support just about any move the Jets make if they think it really helps the team. In the case of DeSean Jackson it would have been grudging support and you can look that one up in about 20 posts on the topic.

Why would we say he overpaid if it's right in line with what it should be?

So far, Idzik has done a fantastic job in this FA.

Okay. In fact I did not say he WOULD NOT come to the Jets, just that his wanting to be the featured back would make it less than likely. But still, I was wrong about that in any event.

Sounds like you just went 2/3 of the way right there but I still think you said something a lot less harsh than grudging support which makes me curious enough to look it up when the mood strikes later.

Good ol' Walterfootball. The same site that has the Jets picking 1st overall in the 2015 Draft because "Who woulda thought Houston would go from Divisional Round to 1st overall pick?!?!?!"

Jets sign RB Chris Johnson (2 years, $8 million): D Grade
I hope Rex Ryan enjoyed his time coaching the Jets because his fate has been sealed. He will be fired at the end of this season in the wake of the Chris Johnson signing. On the bright side, the Jets are likely to have a top-two selection next spring, as seen here in my 2015 NFL Mock Draft.

This is a terrible signing on so many levels. First of all, Johnson is not a good player. He frequently dances around behind the line of scrimmage and has too many negative runs. He doesn't have his elite speed anymore - he turns 29 in September - so there is no more upside with all of his downside. Johnson is also terrible on third downs because he's atrocious in pass protection. Second, Johnson is an awful person to have in the locker room because he throws his teammates and coaching staff under the bus whenever he struggles. Instead of taking the blame himselves - most of which he deserves - he spreads it around, creating a horrible vibe.

Third, Johnson, like the quarterback the Jets just signed, is a coach killer. Not only is he bad to have around teammates, as mentioned, but he happens to be an extremely overrated commodity. He's still a big name, so the media will hype up the Jets entering this season. Offseason hype plus regular-season disappointment is a recipe for coaches being fired, so Ryan will be the latest victim of CJ2YPC and the new quarterback.

where has anyone said $9 million was too much? find it. most people have been clamoring for about $4 million per year. that is what he got. that extra million is incentives which are in every contract and don't count against the cap unless reached. obviously if he reaches incentives they are worth it.

try to keep up even though this is a snails pace discussion.

It's really really sad to watch people scramble to try and cover up the fact they look dumb for things they said about the GM and people who believe in the GM rather than enjoying a great signing by the football team they support.

I don't think he'll stay, though. With his ACL injury last year, his bad legal situation, the possibility of more suspensions, and the possibility of him being sent to prison mid-season - he doesn't have enough upside to counteract all that. We also don't want to cut Powell, and if we kept Goodson that means we'd have to make a cut elsewhere on the roster to keep an extra running back. I think we need that extra backup linebacker, wide receiver, or cornerback or lineman or whatever the case may be, more than we need Goodson.
