I really do too. I was getting a little worried, but I decided to trust in what Idzik is doing.

So far we have extended a great coach in Rex Ryan, we signed the best QB on the market, the best wide receiver on the market and the best running back on the market. We have made HUGE strides from last year, and the greatest part? It was all done with out overspending. Absolutely awesome!

Man, I can't wait to see Ivory and CJ in the same back-field on some read option with a duel threat QB under center.

    DC will not like this.

This offense is slowly taking shape and I'm liking what I see.

Can't wait to play the Pats. Let Revis shut down one wide receiver. Pop screens out of the backfield and pound the ball up the middle. Ivory is tired? OK, put in Chris Johnson!!

    God this is sick!!

I'm being a presumptuous here, but imagine an I formation with Vick, CJ, and Ivory.

    OOooooooooooh

This signing puts the spotlight squarely on the OLine now. They have to step up or step off.

Or Geno. Geno can also run with the ball but I agree Vick would make it more dangerous.

Yup. Marty worked his magic with Vick and McCoy together. Now that he has Vick again and this time with Chris Johnson and Ivory, I think he is gonna make some noise.

This is an OC's dream. Power and speed. It doesn't get better than that

Nobody can disagree with this point at all. I will be the first to admit I lost it once about Idzik (the Patterson signing) but that was a total over-reaction. If you aren't excited about the direction this team is going, then you just haven't been watching the NFL for the past couple decades. Teams with sustained success operate this way. And his approach last year to free agency to get 4 comp picks, of course Sheldon and the extra 4th this year in one of the deepest drafts in recent history and we could really have something for a long time. And seeing the recent report that Rex is not really on the hot seat depending on playoffs or no playoffs (unless he screws this up) makes me that much more optimistic.

If for any reasons the picks don't work out (anything is possible) you still can't fault the approach. Maybe you fault the scouting or whatever, but the approach of not overpaying in FA and building through the draft is how you build a team. We just haven't seen this approach with this team in a long time.

See, I totally predicted that you would react to any subsequent high profile FA signings in exactly this way after Idzik's initial inactivity despite your repeated championing of spending next to nothing in FA. The fact is that Idzik has been more than reasonably active in FA now and whether those moves will yield an overall equal or better team for the next year or two I still would've preferred pursuing some of the younger guys that got snapped up at the start of FA for a more balanced long term impact.

I'm happy to see that he is capable of reaching into the coffers and spending on some guys that fit his overall strategy whether they're the same guys that I would've gone after myself or not, at least it demonstrates that he's capable of picking an aggressive direction and going for it. However, I find it rather amusing that you and the other vocal posters on your side of the fence now magically support a major signing like this simply because the opportunity luckily presented itself and the move was made despite posturing over and over again how awful it would be to spend anything significant even with tens of millions in cap space.

Where are all the posters I quoted earlier that were talking out of their ass saying he wouldn't sign here? Where are all you guys at?

    Lmao!

I really believe that this is an important signing. Ivory's very injury prone; and having
a back that defenses have to account for, who can turn any run or pass into a long
gainer, will open up the rest of our offense.

Yeah, using Ivory to take Bohanon off the field in most scenarios where he would've seen action previously is actually a really big added bonus to this move. Hopefully it will play out like that on the field and they don't end up just bringing out useless Bohanon because he's the 'traditional' FB on the roster and the play calls for one to be out there.

You really can't say its luck. You can't say Idzik knew all along that CJ would be released and have a shot at him, but his patient approach and unwillingness to overspend allowed him to be in this position to make this move. You may not like his approach but to not give him credit and call it luck isn't accurate.

You don't have to agree with his approach and certainly a lot of people don't but you have appreciate that he has an approach and is unwilling to compromise it. Tannenbaum had an approach and stuck with it and it was successful for a time, but not sustainable. Now Idzik has his approach and we need to see how it ends. I for one and am excited about the future, and not just the immediate future.

I'm here. I will admit when he left without signing I didn't think we would get him I'm glad I was wrong.
