Yeah that's what agents do, try to find less money. The level of idiocy it takes to make such a statement is off the charts.
I'd rather fall back on Goodson than overpay for Johnson. They'd play similar roles. That being said, between injury and legal concerns with Goodson, it would be nice to have a 16 game per year guy like CJ
I assume the Jets trainers and doctors had an up close and personal visit with CJ's surgically repaired knee (January 2014). The medical report might have taken some 'shine' off CJ from Idzik's perspective.
CJ is not part of the running back market and you know it. Star status legitimizes his asking prob 5 or 6 mil which is not the 8 he was getting at Titans but a little bit more. What's wrong with that? Spread that out over 2 or 3 years and the Jets have locked up an explosive weapon.
Yes he is. He is a running back in the National Football League. I don't give a shit what stats he has. If the cap on running backs is $4 million, anyone who spends over that is a moron. You don't pay over the cap just because of a name. That's what you and others don't understand. Why is he not part of the market? Because he's had 1,000 yard seasons every year, one of which was 2,000? How about that his ypc has dropped every year, he had only two games with 100+ yards last year, and he's 28 years old? You just gonna ignore all that because he's had a great career? Give me a break. I love Chris Johnson and think he has a ton left, but the market is the market. You don't overpay because he has a famous name. There is only one running back in this league who deserves out of the market value, Adrian Peterson, who is arguably one of the best running backs to ever live. Even then, you don't go crazy. Your response is EXACTLY why teams overspend in free agency and show nothing for it. Teams overpay for the big names who are past their prime. There's a reason they are on the free agency market. Yes, sometimes a guy like DeSean Jackson pops up, but 90% of the players available are either washed up or past their primes but can still make an impact. You NEVER pay huge amounts of money for these guys. Exactly what Chris Johnson is. A player past his prime who could still potentially make a difference.
Three years 14 mil and CJ then walks into retirement sunset a Jet. For a little extra cash Jets go to SB.
Correct. I don't think his surgery had anything to do with him not signing. Idzik has shown that he will not overpay for free agents, which he is 100% right on. The market is set at between $3-4 million for running backs. A little over, fine, but a lot over? Not happening. When Chris Johnson comes to terms with the fact that his market is not where he wants it to be, he will sign. Unless someone like Oakland comes in and pays him $100 million a year.
Your funny dude. You jump on people when they assume something but it ok when you do it. I see why Jet fans got a bad name.
If you are already willing to pay 3 or 4 million for a running back and you did just say he has more in the tank why is 1 mil more per year so outrageous. This is hardly overspending..his 8 million contract was overspending and the Titans let him go. The team that gets him will split that difference..."Hugh amount of money" LMAO
