Well Johnson has accomplished way more then Goodson could dream of. I'm saying (taking court issues out of it) i'd probably rather have a backfield of Johnson, Ivory, Goodson instead of Johnson, Ivory, Powell.
I think of he signs it's gonna be a one year deal. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm thinking he wants a shot at getting more $ next year?
To me it comes down to who is more talented. Goodson or Powell. The Jets obviously like/liked Goodson a lot. The key is to acquire talent. I dont care who the better backup is to be honest. Goodson might bring what Johnson brings but Powell isnt a great receiver either. He doesnt bring anything Goodson can't from what i've seen besides possibly being able to take on a more heavy workload.
Competition y'all, competition. no need to get rid of any RB if this gets done, juts let things play out in camp between Powell and Goodson or whoever else for the third spot. why question who's the better fit when we can KNOW for sure?
I think you're right..people forget he had a bad knee for the last 13 games last year. If he comes back like he was a couple of years ago he will move on for a lot more than we will be paying him which is why I hope we lock him up for at least 2.
Why though? It should come down to who is a better player. Goodson or Powell. Not who fits better as a backup, who has the same tools as another player we have. Who is the better player? That's the guy I want. I think the plan going into last year was that Goodson was going to see a lot of time split with Ivory until he had his off the field issues and then got hurt. Idzik obviously liked him.
thats a possibility... but a risky one seeing as how his stock isn't likely to go much higher than where it is right now. He's coming from an off year which hurts his price, but short of getting another 2k yard season i'm not sure a better campaign in 2014 will yield him bigger $$$ in 2015 compared to what he'd make if he's one a two year deal. he'll be a 30 year old RB on the market, that stigma still spells 4 million a year for any team looking to sign him regardless of having a good year in NY or not. His best bet might just be to set himself up right for one last good payday this year and then take whatever else the jets or anybody else think he's worth as a 30 year old over the next 2-3 years.
I would be shocked if he didn't. I don't think we'd gain any cap flexibility by cutting him so I can see us just putting him on the shelf and seeing how the legal stuff works out.
Anyone know what Ivory's contract is? I seem to recall 3 years, $10 million. Any chance Idzik doesn't want to do anything more than Ivory's contract from a player/PR standpoint? I am not saying he should but I know a lot of times in order not to rock the boat in the locker room, teams are reluctant to sign FAs (especially one that appears will be a backup initially to Ivory) to a more lucrative deal than the incumbent,
because goodson is coming off an acl and standing trial for a felony in may. while powell will be at conditioning programs and ota's . the chances of goodson overcoming all of that and beating powell for rb3 is pretty slim
http://overthecap.com/cap.php?Name=Chris Ivory&Position=RB&Team=Jets 1.75 million this year, 2.75 million next year, a bit of a bargain.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 10m Chris Johnson's meeting with the Jets is over. A source said it went well. Now it's wait and see. #nyj
What the F, wait and see. What the heck does that mean? They needed to sign him. All this means is they made a lousy offer and now a team like Denver, whose better then the Jets can swoop in and sign him on the cheap.
