Idzik is waiting for Chris Johnson to realize what teams are gonna offer him first, once CJ realizes he isn't gonna get the contract he is looking for he will accept Idziks low ball offer because it will be a little higher due to our cap space available
As fans we literally have know idea whether or not the Jets have talked to CJ, though. Especially since Idzik is in charge and keeps a lid on everything.
I'm really hoping we sign CJ2K. I'm having visions of him taking screen passes 60 yards for touchdowns.
Oh yea..............you called John Idzik?how could anyone really know if a conversation took place or didn't.Oh the "Media" said so so it must be true
Loose lips sink ships. That was the phrase that the Navy used to reflect the reality that an enemy u-boat was much more effective when it knew approximately when and where it's target was going to be. None of us have any idea who the Jets are targeting at 18, or even who they like. This substantially reduces the chances of somebody trading up in front of us to get the person we like. It increases the chances of them trading up in front of us to get somebody else they think we like, springing our top target free to 18. Nobody knew the Jets were going to put heavy moves on Eric Decker going into free agency and so we got him locked up at a good rate as the first team he visited. The lid is a good thing.
He's been release for almost a full week now, kind of thought he would have been signed by someone by now. I know he tweeted about weighing all his options and whatnot. Maybe he will wait until after the draft or something. Hard to say.
He's a soon to be 29 year old RB. The market just wasn't there and it isn't miraculously going to materialize at some point. He'll pick his best situation and he'll go play there for a year, hoping to have a big up year that creates a market for him next year. If he has the big up year he'll find a multi-year deal somewhere but it won't be where he wants to play, it'll be a place that is desperately trying to improve it's short-term image/prospects. If he doesn't have the big year he'll be right back where he is this year unless the year is bad in which case he could well be retired. This year isn't going to be about the money because there's no money out there for him. It's going to be about putting himself in the best chance to succeed. Next year will be about the money if he gets very lucky.
Unless he has a monster year, I think he has just this year left in him as a "featured back". Two more draft classes does not bode well for him signing any long term deals. Plenty of 1000 yard rb's to be found cheaper than what he will want. This may be his last chance at 2 years or more deal.
Pundits on NFL Live last night predict he will "end up" with the Jets. I say Idzik makes Offensive coup on this one, offering Johnson's agent an offer they can't refuse in midst of down RB market (fingers crossed an prayin) cause imagine an offense with Decker,Vick,Ivory,Powell, draft WR (Cooks) draft TE (Ebron?) and CJ out of backfield?....BOOM!!!
I would love to see the Jets trade up and get Sammy Watkins. That dude got greatness written all over him.
I hope we don't because I think that's a big stretch for Watkins. Not that I see a bust, but I see at best an average to below average number 1. I don't think it's there's that great of a ceiling for where he's projected.
He may be expecting way more money than any team is willing to pay. They may be looking at the $2m -$3m range and he might want $5m or $6m per year for 3 years. As he realizes that that's not going to happen, he will start looking at whatever the offers are and take a deal somewhere. He could wait until after the draft, but it's probably better for him to get signed somewhere before that, otherwise some of the interested teams will have drafted new RBs and he will have fewer options.
