I'm a firm believe Hill will produce, if our WR corps stays healthy. With Decker, Kerley, and Nelson playing, Hill will draw weaker coverage and I think we'll see some big plays from him this year. I'm still not opposed to taking a WR or TE with the first pick. We have a lot of needs (OL-everywhere, safeties, CBs, WRs, TEs. QB) so it shouldn't be hard to fill a need with a quality player first round. As long as we don't take a d-lineman or LB in the first round, I'll be happy.
That is not a bad idea. I like Allen Robinson a lot now after watching extensive game action. I voted for Lee here, but I hope the Jets think long and hard about Robinson. Also, I want a new safety on this team. I would love the Jets to get Deone Bucannon or Jimmie Ward in the 2nd round, but they might both be gone before the Jets current 2nd round spot.
Robinson is interesting. He'd be a good consolation prize if the Jets decided to trade down in the 1st and the WR's suddenly thinned out in front of them. I'm expecting a WR run at some point, maybe right around the 16 or 17.
What about Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the first, Bradley Roby in the second, Donte Moncrief in the third. Who would like that?
I despise Roby as a prospect, and dislike Moncrief, so I wouldn't. I wouldn't mind a FS, CB, WR order, just not with the players you selected. I just don't think a CB will be BPA in the 2nd.
I would be okay with Clinton-Dix. I haven't seen Roby or Moncrief enough to have formed any sort of solid opinion on them.
Roby is top end athleticism with some consistency and maturity questions. He could drop to us in the second. Moncrief is one of those excellent talents (check out highlights or game tape) that could be available in the third round just because of how many good wideouts there are. 6'2" 221, with 4.4 speed which was his major question before the combine. He could also easily go sooner just depending what team really likes him.
If anyone has time ... this podcast http://www.nfl.com/podcast/nfl-draft-tracker-podcast/1397073780000/detail ... really talks about the WRs expected to go in the first round, and how Lee, Beckham, Cooks & Watkins are ALL better than Tavon Austin. Really a good listen.
I'm coming around to Lee but the injuries scare me. I don't want the Jets to draft a player at 18 and then have to hear "but he is such a great receiver when he is healthy" for the next four years
I am hoping for M. Lee in the first and a Jarvis Landry in the third. Would give us our playmaker and chain mover to pair with Decker & Kerley.
I voted Beckham, but i do like Robinson quite a lot. was initially thinking he may drop to the top of the 2nd round, but now i'm not so sure. Like you said, trading back a little in the first and grabbing Robinson could be a good move. Pairing that pick with ASJ in the 2nd could be the beginnings of an effective O.
you think Landry will last till the third? heard nothing but glowing reports from his pro day.. he'd be a steal for any team in the 3rd..
I disagree. I'm not very high on Robinson at all. If the Jets traded down and then missed out on Cooks, Beckham Jr. and Lee, I'd be royally pissed. I don't think Robinson is gonna get within sniffing distance of the 1st round, and may go closer to the 3rd round than the 1st.
I think it is a possibility that he could last until the third - simply because of the number of potential "#1" type receivers in this draft. There are approximately 13 WR's besides Landry projected to possibly go by the end of round 2. That would mean that 14 of 32 teams decided to go WR by the end of the 2nd. I know it is possible, I just don't believe it is gonna happen. I think Landry slides simply based upon speed ... and I would love the Jets to move UP into the top of the 3rd round to grab him. Just one fans opinion.
Lee - injuries, USC skill position bust history, some serious question marks. Brandin Cooks - polished, amazing production, excellent speed, well spoken, confident. Lee may have more upside if he pans out however Cooks has almost just as much upside with a lot less question marks. Gotta go with Cooks.
Obviously it's not fair to relate all prospects to a college and that school's history of producing particular positions but PSU WR's haven't made a dent in the pros in years. Bobby Engram and OJ McDuffie were probably the last two above average to very good NFL WR's to come out of State College and that was a long time ago when I was still in HS in the early-mid 90's. Jurevicius I guess too but he was just solid, not great. Not a big fan of PSU WR's. I'd steer clear of Robinson.
GReat thread, not an easy choice, an argument can be made for any one of these guys I'm not sure theres a wrong answer. Lee is my personal favorite choice, an instant fit in MM's offense, Lees better size gives him an edge over Cooks in my mind. He has a spectacularly competitive attitude thats played the role of premier receiver before ( THAT phrase should replace this "#1 WR" bullcrap) with fluid movement and speed that makes him the perfect candidate to compliment to Decker over the next few years. He just brings the best overall value to the position out of the three, I don't think his injuries will be that lingering a concern either. also, there is NOTHING about Hill's game, potential or otherwise proven, that should prevent the Jets from picking a WR. Even if he becomes a stud and plays to his size for once its not like an OVERABUNDANCE of talent at WR is a problem or anything, not even in the face of losing the value of one player at another position.
Moncrief reminds me of Hill in that he's straight line fast, but not fluid or quick or athletic. If you watch the tape, you'll probably see what I saw.
