so before anyone says anything i am quitting to move on to a better paying job, so its not like im just leaving cause i hate my job or anything. in fact, i enjoy my job, but its just not really enough money for the type of lifestyle i would like to live, so i got myself an office job. ive never really quit a job before though so im not sure what to say. i got the offer yesterday and accepted so i have to give two weeks notice today when i go in and im not sure what to say. i wrote a resignation letter to give to them to make it official and everything, but i still have to tell them in person obviously. really just wondering if anyone had any advice. should i basically just tell them i got an offer for a better paying job?
Thank them for the time you were there and the opportunity they gave you and just be honest and straight forward . Good luck in your new job
They can't fault you for taking a better opportunity somewhere else. I wouldn't necessarily say better pay though. I would label it as just that, a better opportunity. It might suck if you were one of their better employees, but life goes on and you have to do what's best for you and your family. Just be honest and thank them for everything they've done. Tell them that you had a great time working there and that you stumbled upon a better opportunity that you can't pass up. They should be understanding of that. If they are not understanding, then smack your "old" boss in the face. Hell, you already have a job lined up. Not like it will hurt your next job search
Just tell them, it has been a pleasure working with you, but you are looking to move on and continue your career. Don't let them intimidate you. At the end of the day it's a business.
As previously mentioned, keep it on the up and up. Sincere thanks for the opportunity to work there ("I'll always remember fondly...etc., etc."). Best of luck in your new endeavor.
Just be professional and give them the adequate notice. Tell them you are willing to help train your replacement. You never know when a past reference will come in handy, it's better not to burn bridges. Some companies ask for multiple references.
Just be professional....you may need them for references, and if you hate this new job, you might wanna go back to work for them. ..never burn bridges

Congrats on getting a new job! As others have stated, if they ask, it was a better opportunity for you at this time. Tell them how much you enjoyed working there and the people there. Don't trash them at the new company or to other people (small world), stay in good terms with everyone there, maybe even stay in touch with people there. You said you enjoyed your job, so I think most of the above will just come naturally. It's a bit more dangerous when an individual is leaving because of something that occurred or people at the previous job.
Congrats on new job! The quitting is a straight forward business, stress on "business". Come to boss office, ask if you can have a minute alone. Close the door and just say: "I just want to let you know that I'm resigning my position. My last day will be ... It was a great pleasure working with you, but I came across great opportunity that I've decided to accept. I'll be very happy to do everything I can to make transition smooth." And that is it! Do NOT tell where you're going, how much you'll be making. Do not bring up any grudge you might have with job or people. They'll likely ask you to go to exit interview with HR. I advise to refuse it since this interview is THEIR opportunity to get something out of you. Do NOT sign any exit agreements, do not fall for sweet sympathetic HR talk. Most importantly: DO NOT ACCEPT A COUNTER OFFER!
On your last day, spring for breakfast: lay out some lines of blow, a couple of fat joints, chilled vodka shots and trays of crispy bacon
Congrats on the new job! My wife just quit her job with a company she had been with for 5 years because she found a better paying job doing pretty much the same thing. She was pretty nervous, mostly because she really likes her co-workers, but everyone was really happy for her. I hope you had a similar experience.
