And non of them blew his doors off. That's why he's still allegedly weighing his options. He does have time but should sign ASAP as the market will continue to decline until it completely hits rock bottom after the draft. I'd still like to see him and Davin Joseph added to really bolster this run game, I bet Rex would too...
If he had several good offers we'd have heard about them by now as his agents tried to leverage a better deal. That we've heard nothing suggests that he doesn't have much on tap and that he's still hoping an offer he can't refuse will materialize. At a guess he has a standing offer of about $3.5M from the Titans to come back and that's probably what he is hoping to beat. The Titans clearly wanted to keep him at a reduced salary but could not come to an agreement with him on that.
So now you're predicting the amount of teams interested in him? Why don't you just take a wait and see approach like everyone else is
I'm not implying that he has any set number of offers. What I'm saying is, no one knows how many offers or what he has been offered yet. It's all speculation. No conclusions can be drawn right now. That'd a fact
I think it is a safe conclusion that the market for him is not hot. We'd have heard something by now if he had real interest coming his way.
That's fine. To say one has a hot market or cold market, while it still is speculation, it is an educated guess. Saying a player has X amount of teams lined up or is looking for X amount of money without knowing anything is wrong. You can't say what a player is looking for money wise until you have heard him say it.
I rather draft someone in the 4th round like Ka'deem Carey or Charles Sims then sign Johnson. It's not that I'm completely against Johnson or don't think he can contribute to our offense, but it would be cheaper to draft a player plus, to me, there isn't alot of upside for Johnson in the future past this year.
This would be smart logic if we had limited funds. The fact that we have so much money, means that we should go after a guy like Chris Johnson who is a proven NFL talent and save that draft pick for another need. Why spend a draft pick on another running back that has no guarantee of starting in the NFL when you have a guy with experience and over 8,000 yards available? We have the money, spend it wisely. Spending it on Johnson would be a wise move
Your are right, we do have the money and he does have a good resume, but honestly I don't see him staying more than a year if he signs with the Jets. I would be more for it if we were a playoff team needing a few players to make the push, but at the moment we are still trying to build team and I think we could add some good running back talent with our 4th round picks. If he does signs with the Jets for a reasonable deal, that will be great. This offense has been devoid of talent for the past couple years and adding Johnson would really help. I just feel that adding young talent to the backfield and grooming them could pay off dividends in the next couple years.
I would give CJ no more than 4 million a year for 2 years. First off the Jets dont REALLY need a RB, hes old, RBs dont lead to great team success. The only other option would be 1 year for 5 million and even thats really pushing it. Im not even sure I would pull the trigger on that. RBs to me have little value. Chris Johnsons style does not appeal to me either. I like guys like Frank Gore.
It's Friday night and Chris Johnson has yet to sign or even drawn interest really from anyone...I wonder where Maximus is? CJ was suppose to sign Monday night based on all the other free agents timetable for signing
I like Davin Joseph alot too. His issue though is that he can't stay healthy. I think the Jets really want to start a youth movement specifically at guard on the OL. Time will tell but I expect either Campbell or Aboushi to give Colon a run for his money. Winters will likely start at LG whether we like it or not. I'm ok w/ this plan permitted Winters make strides.Campbell showed some encouraging signs in both TC & preseason. Anxious to see where he is at in his development. I just hope one of the youngsters is truly a plus run blocker if we really wanna pound the rock as much as has been speculated.Campbell certainly has the physical tools..but let's not forget he is a converted DL.
It's will be interesting to see how this line matures over the next two years. I think colon is only a stopgap and hope Campbell can step in this year if needed (willies injury history). That's why I like Joseph on a one year or two year deal, for depth. Also truly not sold on Winters yet either. I hope he makes some huge strides as the LG hole has really hurt Bricks and Mangolds ability to do what they do best. That's why I like the idea of signing CJ. We need different style runners to help make up for some of the weaknesses of the line. I know everybody is devaluing the running back in the new "air it out NFL" but the ground game is still essential to a championship team. CJ brings a dynamic that the Jets haven't had since...Leon Washington. A true home run threat in the backfield. I for one would love to see a seasoned game breaker in our backfield again.
I hope so bro. I usually stay pretty quiet but your argumentative banter is obnoxious. You have single handedly hijacked several threads in recent weeks.
