i see a lot of desean jackson in odell beckham honestly, i think that is his best comp can highpoint the ball, is a home run threat, extremely quick off the LOS, plays STs. i have him as my 3rd ranked WR
The key to these 3 players is who a team feels is the best fit for their team. There are going to be be many different opinions from GMs on these 3 players. I believe Cooks is the best fit for what MM wants to do and the people who think he's only a slot player have a myopic POV. If you want the player with the highest ceiling Lee is the choice, he needs to stay healthy and be more consistent to achieve the best of the group in the NFL. Beckham stats are skewed some playing next to Jarvis. Beckham is a little overrated of the 3, but still has untapped potential.
he doesn't have elite 40 speed, but he gets great separation and is a very dependable route runner. He gets that intense focus in games that you can see... being "in the zone" where he can elevate his game when the lights are on.
Some guys are natural performers and he's one of those guys. He just gets lost in the game when he's out there. Not being stuck in your head is a great thing for a professional athlete. It opens things up. There's a huge difference between thinking about what you're supposed to be doing at all times and just doing it.
There are things I like a lot about Lee, specifically his burst, route running and YAC ability. I want to like him more. But his lack of natural hands scares me. You can practice every day on a Jugs machine until you're blue in the face (Darrius Heyward-Bey, Stephen Hill?), but when push comes to shove, you either have it or you don't. (Before you bash me on the Heyward-Bey reference, I'm not saying Lee is the next DHB. DHB is one of the worst "receivers" I've ever seen. I'm just saying I want a guy with dependable hands.) Nobody's disputing his college production when healthy. But you can't project a successful NFL career based purely on gaudy college numbers. If we take him @18 I won't bash the pick. I'd just much rather have Mike Evans. Assuming Evans is long gone, I'd take Brandin Cooks over Lee.
For me, Cooks is a combination of DeSean Jackson and Steve Smith. Basically mix those two players together. Beckham Jr. is like Robert Woods except a tad better in basically every measurable aside from being .5" shorter.
absolutely, he feels like the total package next to Cooks and Evans, and a natural fit next to decker and Kerely say it with me now: JET LEE
I'm curious what bust potential you see in Beckham. Sorry, I just don't see it at all and am truly perplexed at your statement.
He disappears against larger competition. He feasts on lesser opponents. I want my top receivers to produce against bigger competition. You can look at his production in 3 yrs and nothing really stands out cept for when he played some garbage schools - No career TDs against Alabama, or Auburn in 3 years.
Thanks for your response. I agree with you in wanting my top receivers to produce against top competition and not disappear. The thing is, did he really disappear or did the OC change the game plan due to their opponents? Maybe the OC went more conservative or maybe Beckham was nicked up vs those schools. It is something that is an area of concern, and I hope the Jets are looking at that closely.
It could be the coordinator, but still Alabama got lit up by Mike Evans - Beckham couldn't even top 42 yards and Zach Mettenberger wasn't injured yet. I don't know what the Jets are thinking, but to not produce against top competition ever is a red flag in my book. I would rather look at Cooks or even Jarvis Landry (trade down, pray he's there in the 2nd) who was easily the better receiver in LSU IMO. The SEC didn't exactly light the world on fire on defense.
I would liken Lee to Greg Jennings. Very similar in size. Cooks would be Steve Smith and Beckham would be Desean Jackson, he does it all.
I'm definitely on the Beckham is a good complimentary receiver not a #1 WR side of the fence. He has good potential at the NFL level but in order for him to be a #1 WR he's going to have to grow his game and skill sets, not just adapt them to the NFL.
I would be sadly disappointed if we took Lee... That is really the only guy i dont want... Benjamin/Cooks/Beckham are much better options in my mind at WR! Either of those 3 i would be liking a lot! Benjamin in particular of course If we go with another position in the 1st round i hope we grab either Adams/Mathews/Richardson/Robinson with our 2nd.
The funny thing is the elite receivers in the league that actually are under 6'0 weren't even first round picks, go figure.
I just really don't understand this opinion. Yeah, Lee regressed last year from his previous dominance under a new set of conditions and an injury; and yeah, there's that one video that shows Lee sometimes doesn't catch with his hands; but aside from that Lee has proven to be extremely productive and efficient with the ball, both before and after the catch. And he would be a perfect compliment to Decker, IMO. I'm not an expert, though. His tape just jumps out to me.
