If you don't think Manziel hasn't helped himself and will continue to do so, you're either not watching or intentionally ignoring it.

He had a stellar pro day and daily you're hearing reports of his workouts and preparation for the draft. Just 20 mins ago I saw a feature on him on ESPN showing him working out with his QB guru on footwork and mechanics, hell he was at the beach with 6 other QBs running in sand, practicing drop backs in the surf, jumping, agility, footwork.

Does that mean he's getting better? Ha! At the BEACH? Of course not.

But what it DOES show is a dedication to his craft that we've not seen before. It shows a willingness to work, to accept coaching, that he knows he's not a finished product.

And what is also DOESN'T show is him out at clubs or bars or with rappers partying.

His hype team is going to do everything they can do to show that he's a QB and a football player and not a party boy.

Johnny Football is absolutely helping himself.

He is. I just want Teddy as his backup for like 10 years from now.

That's true. I never thought Nassib or Barkley were going in the first. I thought Geno and EJ were.

But if Carr or Manziel fall out of the first round, will you say they weren't first round talents next season? You seem to think all 4 are first round talents. If one of them falls, do you change your tune next year? Its really easy to call out QB's as not being first round quality players a year later.

Kind of sad to think David Fales might be more accurate than any of the QBs from last year's draft.

Still hoping the Jets look at him in the later rounds

I don't believe in the concept of "falling out".

If they go 2nd round, you know what? They never WERE first rounders and everything we've heard is hype. If Manziel goes in the third, then he's a third round talent.

That's different than how I feel about the players themselves.

If somehow Teddy falls to 18 in the second round and we take him I'll jump for joy.

But I'm not going to crow like some folks here last year all giddy that we stole the number 1 pick of the draft at 39.

Where they are "mocked" are guesses, some more educated than others. Where they are TAKEN shows their true or relatively true draft value.

And btw, I never thought Geno, Nassib OR Manuel were first round talents BEFORE last years draft. We got great value at 39, we didn't get a first rounder who "fell out" of the first. That was an illusion.

This. I know that Clowney is a physical freak, and when he decides to play, he can dominate. The problem is, as you say, he dogs it, and doesn't always decide to play. Will he phone it in even worse once he gets paid millions, or will he decide to do just enough work to get paid more, or will he get inspired to become one of the all-time greats? I'm just glad I don't have to be in the position to make that decision. If he becomes an all-time great, then it will make the GM who took him look like a genius, but if he busts or is just a Williams or Peppers level player in the NFL, then the GM's reputation will be safe, but will he have passed up a better player?

It's funny that a guy like Teddy was SO productive, so accurate, such a clutch player and folks want to dump on him because he's skinny (lots of QBs entered the league skinny) or had a bad pro day.

Clowney is a physical freak and probably would have gone number 1 last year as well, basically mails it in half the time this year and not a peep out of his supporters.

That's why I'm really thinking Teddy goes #3 overall to the Jags, unless someone trades up to the #2 and gets him first.

So basically, there are no such things as steals, reaches.etc, because everyone gets picked at their true value?

You might want to check up on the Appeal to Authority fallacy.

teddy has a weak arm. he will need to strengthen up in order to hold geno's jockstrap.

The terms steal and reach are fans terms, draft nick terms, internet terms. I don't REALLY consider a steal a true steal, just that we got good value. That's why I said "true value or RELATIVE value".

Kiper talks about steals, I'm thinking real GMs don't think that way. Everyone has everyone rated slightly differently, what you think was a steal at 39, I think was good value and others may have thought a reach, but I'm not sure there are GMs out there saying "holy shit, the Jets just stole Geno from us, we didn't see THAT coming".

It's all semantics, all guessing until the teams pick the players.

And he's a lot lot shorter than Teddy. Probably as much as 3/8ths of an inch shorter.

I think I'm back at 8 as the farthest Bridgewater could slip. It's just really hard seeing the Vikings let him go by at that pick if he's there. They'd have to really like Derek Carr for Bridgewater to get by them.

The amount of negative noise around Bridgewater is not normal for a guy who is going to get taken in the top 10. I think the prolonged period between the combine and the draft is a very bad thing for him at this point.

I don't think it makes a difference. Only one team has to love him to pull the trigger. I think he's the best option of the top 3 Qb's and I think the Jaguars do to.

No, the noise that developed around Aaron Rodgers. A 6'2" QB from a 2nd-tier program at Cal. Went from 1 of 2 in the top 10 to #26 or thereabouts.
