So sad man. He was just on Raw the night before, and inducted into the Hall of Fame two days before that.
So with so much time since his release (known if not actual) it would seem his agent must be trying to create a market for him. Otherwise I can't see why he has no visits scheduled. Shame he is in NY and Idzik is at LSU today.
If the NFL collectively believes that Chris Johnson has lost a step, well that's his game going away. He's unusually dependent on his burst and his speed because he doesn't break tackles. I don't think we're there yet but there were red flags all over the place last season in his play, including his inability to break a single long-gainer and his YPC dropping below 4. Add in the fact that he's 29 this year and teams may just be leery of his ability to maintain an NFL caliber level of play.
He did have a 66 yard receiving TD which should probably count as a long gainer since most of his receptions are short passes around the LOS.
It was a catch and run with a couple of wipeout blocks and Johnson splitting a LB and safety at the end. Not his blazing speed on that one, just a well executed dump off over the middle with the speed guys on the outside neutralized. You can watch the video here, just click on the GIF in the middle of the page, not the one at the top. http://fansided.com/2013/10/20/cj2k-catches-pass-runs-66-yards-form-touchdown-gif/#!Dkozz
Thanks for posting that. I see what you're saying but he still looks pretty damn fast to me. I see some nice acceleration - surely better than anyone we currently have on offense.
That's not the point. The point is that if Chris Johnson's game revolves around his breakaway speed, and it certainly does, then if that speed is no longer there he's no longer a special player. That's what the story of the last 3 years looks like and he stepped down a bit last year.
Yeah give it a week, that will go away. He looked pretty quick although yeah, that blazing speed he is known for isn't evident. I guess I just don't get why we're doing this huge youth movement - and now pursuing (allegedly) a RB who has lost a step and is on the back end of his career when we can likely find a decent speed back in the mid rounds of a deep draft where we have 12 DPs. Yeah, the odds of finding a guy with CJ's current skills are probably pretty low, but those skills ain't gonna last for that much longer and they are already deteriorating.
Just get him already, that will fill aneed and more draft picks to get top tier WR's safeties and CB's
