I feel like this is def gonna happen, but its the Jets .....we never get what we want,I'm not big on Chris Johnson being a Jet but the move has big upside if he pans out for us.The only thing is what happens to Powell?who I've actually enjoyed watching whenever he gets a chance,I guess he will still get his touches but they will def be cut in half

I will be critical of Idzik if he misses out on CJ because of money. There is no excuse for the Jets to get outbid. If CJ doesn't want to come here or Idzik doesn't want him then I can live with it. A front loaded contract for 2-3 years with about 7-8 MIL guaranteed won't be matched by any team. Make it happen!!!!

8 mil guaranteed? Guarantee this guy a jersey. That's about it. And you already know he ain't wearing Curtis' number so fuck him.

If frail shithouse RB Darren McFadden has set the market with a £4mn contract (albeit with incentives rather than guaranteed) then I'm half expecting Johnson to want more than what we want to offer.

I wasn't too bothered about this signing but it would be worth the contract alone for Ivory and CJ2K to ground and pound the shit out of the Pasts after they've invested heavily in CB's in FA.

    Get it done Tanny etc.

I would be shocked if Idzik gave him that much. But with so little of a market, I don't see how he doesn't get the deal done.

actually there is an excuse -- if the other team offers him more than Idzik believes he is worth. just because the Jets have the available cap space to match an offer doesn't mean they should.

you don't waste the available cap space and overpay a player simply because you have the space, because if you don't use it it carries over to next year. and maybe next year there will be a player the Jets would rather spend that extra million on that they wouldn't have if they gave it to Johnson but wasn't worth it.

It's hard to believe that some people can't grasp this simple concept.

    Unless everybody is wron
Why is it that some people here think only Idzik knows what a player is worth and what the market should be? Any chance he doesn't have a clue but pulls a number out his ass and sticks to that because he doesn't know what else to do?

I would say there is zero chance that a man that has been in charge of contracts for at least 7 years has no clue and pulls numbers out of his ass cause he doesn't know what else to do. To even suggest is such ridiculous hyperbole.

Nobody thinks that. It doesn't matter whether he is wrong or not, it only matters what his opinion is because it is his decision. Whether he is wrong will be determined in the future whether we sign him or not and he either lives up to his contract or not with the jets or elsewhere.

But that isn't the conversation. The conversation is whether Idzik should match any offer simply because we have the cap space.

Also keep in mind what team he did all of this for, and what they accomplished last year. Also note how quickly they got their cap and order and signed the right players.

It's not hard to figure out what CJ2K is worth, look at the other RB contracts then add a premium according to how much more you think he will help the team/how much better he is than the guys who have signed.

I'd like us to sign him, but if some other team wants to give him a crazy contract compared to other RBs (i.e. 2 years, 12 million) let him walk.

It doesn't seem like there is much of a market for him though...

Tannenbaum was in charge of contracts for at least 8 years too..so what? Lots of GMs with a lot of experience seem to have no trouble signing people so either they are all overpaying or they have a much better handle on the market..take your pick.

I think it's much more likely that it is you who doesn't have a clue than the NFL GM not having a clue. Just my opinion.
