Said involved. I didn't say he personally picked him. you literally said what I did. what was the point.
Just clarifying your statement. To me it read like he was actually involved in selecting him when chances are he was only involved in the signing portion. That was my point. Sorry if it got you in an uproar...
I don't call anyone "can't misses" or "likely busts" because I think they are both exaggerations pushed by the media. The success or failure of any player has so many factors, not the least of which are the players around him and the way a coaching staff use him, not to mention the things that happen in a players life outside of the football field. Dennard, based on the game film I've watched, has the most developed technique of any top corner in the draft. I would say that most of those errant throws down the field are actually a result of Dennard using body position to limit what the WR can do, in terms of tracking a ball. Other reasons I am so high on Dennard come from his excellent blitzing ability, his mastery of the defensive scheme, the fact that he plays hard to the whistle, his excellent and aggressive tackling angles, his sure tackling, and his ability to play press man coverage from any position on the field. One thing that I've stated before that really sold me on Dennard was in one play I saw Dennard trail a WR from I believe the left slot position to tight on the right side of the line on a pre-snap motion, and then blitz on the snap for a sack with absolutely no hesitation. The football IQ he showed there by understanding that it was safe to release the receiver even after the pre-snap motion, and the instant decisiveness is the kind of thing that makes me fall in love with a player. Football IQ, technique, and versatility are my favorite things in any position.
Good info thank U. When I did search didn't find anything about this. I pulled mine from the Sports Illustrated where did yours come from? Found this: It doesn't mention anything about being a professional scout in any organization? http://www.uhsindianpost.net/features/new-york-jets-name-class-of-78-grad-general-manager/
"Idzik also played foot-ball at Dartmouth University, had some scouting experience," It doesn't specify pro scouting but it doesn't specify that it wasn't either.
You can do a lot worse than Kyle Wilson on the outside. Patterson and Berry both have starting experience and Walls looks ready to make the jump and who knows what we have in Ras-I Dowling. This is one position I'd rather see an open competition to see who rises to the top
I saw something like that but that is the only place it was ever mentioned. Surely if he was pro scout in would be somewhere" I googled it and did a bing search nothing. I think it was possibly was a misquote. Certainly the Jets would be proud to proclaim the GM's knowledge on scouting and his experience. I just don't buy it if U do that's your prerogative. .
See. the reason I think Dennard was easily the best defensive player on that team is because of how consistent he has been the entire time he has been a Spartan. He did the exact same things, consistently. This amazing DL didn't establish until this past season, which obviously helps but it doesn't tell the whole story. That pass rush was not like that every year for Dennard, yet he still did the same things game in and game out. So I guess your argument is just odd to me considering your argument really only applies for one year of MSU football, you're not taking in the whole body of work that he has while at MSU.
You think 3 separate GM's were misquoted? The Seahawks' GM John Schneider said of Idzik: "I met him a long time ago as a pro scout, so I know he was scouting before he got into the whole cap stuff. " The Cardinals' former GM Rod Graves, who hired Idzik in 2004 said: "John will be very methodical in how he acts, and you will not see him flying by the seat of his pants. He will think things out very carefully. John is extremely through, and he has a big benefit in having worked on the scouting end of it, in the administrative end of it and on the salary-cap end of it." The Cardinals' current GM, who worked with Idzik at the Cardinals said: "Coming up through the scouting department, John was always thought of in many league circles as a money guy, as a salary-cap guru. That, to me, is the farthest thing from the truth." He goes on to say: "John is also a football guy. He knows players, he knows talent. He has a unique eye for evaluating players.
A misquote? Maybe you need to work on your Google skills because I found those quotes Waterboy just posted easily. I'll trust the words of NFL general managers before I trust a wiki page
You quote but don't show links? I am still saying why haven't the Jets come out and praise his experience in scouting? Here is his bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Idzik,_Jr. Still nothing about scouting. Why? Working with the scouting dept doesn't make you a pro scout, does it? Mind U this doesn't make him a bad selection by our Jets but you guys really want to believe he was a pro scout. That's fine but please provide proof besides he said and quotes . I never said he was poor in evaluating players as I just don't know. You seem to think I have an agenda against him. I don't and while I disapprove of his actions to date I really want him to succeed, I am a Jet fan albeit not one with rosy green glasses.
They have, I've heard them say it in multiple press conferences with my own ears. We've spent way too much time on this already and I really don't feel like digging through months old Jets pressers when the quotes are right there.
well the problem hits u quick with this list - more than 50% of these folks have not started an NFL game.
Nor do I wish to continue this silly argument. Since U heard them with your ears you are right. Since I haven't and spent time doing searches in trying to find out the truth. I am right. So there it stands...
I voted for Patterson but this is something that really could be determined by competition in camp. The one guy I know I don't want to see starting is Kyle Wilson. He's a liability on defense in terms of coverage skills and I think we were lucky that opponents didn't go after him even more last season. But Walls is a guy who shows promise and he should be playing a lot this season. The big question mark is really Milliner. If he struggles again there will be major problems. If he improves and becomes the player they want him to be I think we can get by well with one shutdown CB. You don't need two if the other guys are ok.
