my guess is he signs for about 4 million per year tops, probably a 1 year deal due to coming off of knee surgery...He's worth more than that but the market for RB's is low these days.
I'd rather the Jets lock him up sooner rather then later. We are ~$29 million under the cap. I'd hate to wake up tomorrow and see he signed with another team for $3.5 m.
The knee surgery was a minor procedure so I am not sure it will really be too much of a factor, he was able to play with the torn meniscus since it happened in week 3.
While I agree that getting Chris Johnson would help solidified the backfield and provide us depth but I want to caution that Johnson is a dynamite RB receiver. Once he HAS the ball, he is EXPLOSIVE however, he was never among the top RB receiver because of his tendency to drop passes. I am however curious to see how he will do behind our Offensive line. While improving the Passing game is needed, the Jets are going to have to win games with time of possession and piling up the rushing yards. While the Jets were solid last year in rushing, they still need to get better. So with hopefully a little improvement in air attack and improvement on the ground attack will give us a little more balance and move chains.
2013 he had 4 drops out of 52 times targeted, 2012 2 drops/49 targets, 2011 2 drops /35 targets and 2010 2 drops/57 targets. The highest drop percentage out of those 4 years was 7.7%, the other 3 were 3.5%, 4.1% and 5.7%. To give a reference LT in his last year with the Jets had an 10.7% drop percentage, last year Jamaal Charles who had the most receiving yards by a RB had a 7.7% drop percentage. Of course you have backs like Sproles or Tate who rarely drop a pass but I don't think dropped passes are that big a deal with Johnson.
Thanks for dropping the knowledge. I was thinking about Mehta all day yesterday when I heard CJ was not officially released. These writers just assume quotes etc are correct without fact checking. It's irresponsible and unreal. It just further goes to show that media in relation to football has no credibility and they are essentially tabloid writers. Manish Mehta is a fucking tabloid sports writer.
You probably mean Tuesday's news but yesterdays is what it feels like to me because it's been so worn out.
Coulda sworn they reported "the titans told chris Johnson he will be released" on Friday. The actual transaction hoes through Monday at 4.
We need CJ for balance. Basically if we can get teams to start game planning for that two headed monster of CJ & Ivory.. Geno could have a breakout year. Or Vick would have a good one. Play action game would improve drastically, thats how sanchez prospered. Plus geno is SICK on that play action roll out pass.
Given how the shelf life for RB's is viewed in the league today and the salaries being handed out to "healthy" RB's around the league I'll still stand pretty much by that assessment. I can't remember a time when one position became so devalued around the league so quickly.
Getting CJ would make perfect sense, if this was a win now team, however judging by the message the FO an media is trying to send, we are building threw the draft, so why get a ragged out 28 year old RB coming off knee surgery? The Jets can find one in the draft, IMO, Ivory an Powell are fine, not to mention Goodson a Idzik signing, don't waste $ on this guy.
