I thought what I saw of Latimer was pretty weak. That's the Indiana guy, right? There was literally no special quality I saw in him. JMO of course.
i'm just so confused, have you guys even watched one of his games? he made darqueze dennard struggle when he lit up MSU. if his QB play wasn't awful moe people would know who he is i can't find much flaw in his game. the reason he was ranked so low was because people thought he had a bad injury and had surgery. it wasn't as bad as people thought and he lit it up at his pro day a few days ago. now he's on the rise it should be noted the NFL Draft Advisory Board gave latimer a 3rd round grade right as the season ended and NOW his stock is rising. also whoever said latimer is weak is full of shit, he benched 225 23 times, which i'm pretty sure was the best out of all the WRs
Lol I wasn't saying he was physically weak, I was saying his talent level was weak. This is what I wrote about him: 24. Cody Latimer, Indiana6'2", 215#Round: UDFA Stiff route runner. Good size. Not a good improvisor when the play breaks down. Inconsistent but strong blocker. Does not break many tackles. Good hands and catch radius. Does not show any outstanding qualities. (vs Bowling Green, Michigan State, Michigan)
oh thats my bad well, we will see come draft day who is right and who is wrong. i respect your guys' opinions, but i'm sticking with mine
I'm not sure if these Rotoworld articles were posted but they're pretty informative... It breaks down the top WR prospects by categories such as drop percentage, routes, YAC, etc. According to the articles "Anything below 6 or 7% is just about normal for NCAA wide receivers.". Prospects like Watkins, Evans, and Cooks had low drop percentages in the 4% range. The lowest was Jarvis Landry at 2.50%. Kelvin Benjamin was at a 9.68% and Marqise Lee had the highest drop percentage at 12.31%. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46006/349/peshek-top-4-wr-metrics http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/46136/349/peshek-wr-metrics-20
This has been around for awhile. You can go look up the last thread it was in. Anybody who thinks Marqise Lee can't catch the ball and doesn't know what to do with it afterwards is either an idiot or somebody with an agenda to promote their client in the draft at Lee's expense. Over the last two years, including a rough junior year that was marred by injury, QB instability and coaching changes, Lee caught 175 passes for 2,512 yards and 18 TD's. The year before that he caught 73 for 1,143 and 11 TD's. Suggesting that somebody with those numbers can't catch the ball at the next level is ridiculous. As Rich Cimini pointed out in his draft dish column only 1 interception was thrown on a pass targeted at Lee over his college career. This over a span of games where the USC QB's threw 36 Int's. When your #1 WR goes 1 for his career on interceptions thrown on passes targeted at him and scores 29 TD's that means you either have an all-time great QB running the offense or... I'm really hoping the draft scuttlebutt drops Lee at 18 and the Jets can make the gutcheck on taking him. What have the Jets been missing since Joe Namath left town? A great playmaker. An all-time great playmaker. If we get somebody like Cooks while Lee is still out there I won't regret the pick but I'll know that we left value on the table and I'll know that our shot at that all-time great playmaker is probably going to have to wait another year. If we take Beckham I'll be nauseated. Because Beckham isn't on the same plane as either of the other 2 guys and the difference between Lee and Beckham is gaping and wide.
Wow, now that is a cool stat. Lee plays with intensity... like he's "turned up" all the time. Sometimes that's a problem, like when he gets demonstrative about what he thinks is a bad throw or decision by his QB, but it's needed to dominate your opposition like he does.
If the stat is accurate it's just crazy good, Cimini's term again not mine. It means that Lee consistently puts his QB's in good positions and is in all likelihood pretty good at fighting for the ball on a poor throw. It also means that he's an excellent route runner and does not blow his assignments because you get a few picks just on the "oops, wasn't on the same page" category over time.
No one can take away his production in 2011/2012. He is talented. His high drop percentage is something to take into consideration however. Lee even acknowledged the drops and need to work on catching the ball better. (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/04/pft-live-0404-marqise-lee-pft-planet/) His durability on the next level could also be a question mark due to injuries.
I'm fine with Cooks, Lee or Beckham. All three have excelled and should be very productive NFL players. I will take any of the 3 WRs I think 2 of the 3 will be available when the Jets are OTC. Cooks - most explosive, not the biggest player, but super productive. Strongest player of the group for his size. IMO, best hands of the group. Very confident player, almost cocky, but he's not. My slight favorite of the group. I think MM's favorite, no proof... JMO. Lee - Highest ceiling, I expect him to return to 2012' s form. Would have been a top 5 player last year. Great after the catch, YAC machine. Good Kid that could have been swayed from Football, but stayed focused. Beckham - I like how he high points the ball, great leaper for his size. Does everything well, good special team player. Beckham interviews extremely well, impressive Kid. Very likable, always has a smile on his face, great family, loves football with a passion. Our ST coach will have some input.
Holy freaking crap, we have to draft Lee. Seriously, I want this guy over any of the wide receivers cept for Watkins. Please Jets please draft Lee. Everything about this kid screams "Jets, perfect fit" - I see Beckham with the highest bust potential in the first round, really want to stay away from him.
You see how the first two differ from the third though, right? The first two you can project as a star if they just manage to recapture in the NFL their best days in college. The third needs to grow some in addition adjusting to the NFL. That's why I see a huge gap between Lee and Beckham and a pretty big one between Cooks and Beckham.
Lee is such a tough prospect to figure out he doesn't have elite speed and lacks concentration at points, but he still seems to do everything well
I'm not worrying about Beckham busting. I'm worried that his ceiling is going to be good receiver and that there will be guys available on that pick whose ceiling is top 5 NFL WR.
He had Jarvis Landry next to him for the majority of his career, and Landry is a better receiver. Not sure if Beckham is a true go to guy at the next level. If I draft a receiver in the first round, I want that receiver to have a consistent track record of being productive. I don't see that from Beckham. Beckham is boom or bust.
The Jarvis Landry pairing was good for both of them. Landry got a deep threat on the other side to take the top off the defense and Beckham got a go-to 3rd down maker to take the pressure off of him and force the defense to account more heavily for the middle of the field. I'd like to have either of those guys on the Jets next year, just not at the expense of the 18 pick. I don't think either of them has enough star power to be worth a 1st round pick at this point. I think Landry will catch a bunch of balls next year if somebody asks him too but he's a possession receiver and there's a cap on that overall value in the offense.
