That is my worry with Cooks and why I think he will ultimately bust, he is great in the slot but if you put him on the outside I just don't think he will ever be that premier receiver.
Cooks is going to stretch the field and play short and long. He's the perfect YAC receiver, bubble screens and short crosses into huge plays. He will also go deep at times. I've mentioned this before, I'm the biggest Cook's fan around, but I believe Idzik will take the BPA and it probably won't be Cooks at #18...unless his value, to the Jets , changes in the next 5 weeks.
marqise lee is also heralded for his amazing work ethic and attitude, it ultimately seems like most of the WRs in this years draft are good kids that want to do well brandin cooks can play the X and Y i think. there is a difference between being short and being small. cooks is just short, he's more than powerful enough to play the outside
I did watch some of his tape, he made some spectacular plays. Just because you're explosive doesn't mean you can do that to NFL corners and safeties when DC's are scheming to stop you. Can he run a 15 yard dig route and take a hit from a LB'er or safety? You can't just come on the league and run screens and jet sweeps all day ask Tavon Austin how that worked out for him.
Tavon Austin is a gadget player, he isn't half the receiver Cooks is. Austin is a terrible route runner and is still raw. I've seen a lot of Cooks games and he can do it all. Go deep, play inside, outside...you can't deny his production. He will be a solid NFL player.
His production is great, but we are talking about a first round pick, we are not looking for a 'solid' NFL player we're looking for a premier player in the 1st. I truly love his talent and his attitude but I just don't ever see him as an elite 1 or 2. He can be an elite slot receiver though but we already have Kerley.
We can agree to disagree....Kerley isn't near the talent of Cooks...that's just a stupid statement. Cooks isn't a slot receiver. Sorry you're so myopic on Cook's talent. I suggest you study him some more, I've seen hours of his tape and game days. I haven't heard from you your WR at #18???
Of course Kerley is not the talent that Cooks is I was just saying that our slot position looks locked up for a while. What rules state we need to take a WR at 18? So much other talent would probably still be on the board to consider Lee or Cooks.
I don't think you can compare Austin to anybody in this year's draft with the possible exception of Dri Archer. Austin really is not a WR by trade. He's more of a play maker than a WR and he really should be touching the ball more often than the Rams did last year. He should probably be getting 5 touches a game out of the backfield. Not all carries because the guy will break with too much contact but he's too quick not to use more often behind the line of scrimmage.
He went top 10 though, you don't take a player like Austin in the top 10 thats insane I can't believe people on these boards wanted us to take him at 9.
Slot is locked up, Cooks wouldn't be the slot receiver. I don't you have read many of my posts on this site. I frequently have said I think Cooks or any other WR (Lee & OBJ) will not be the BPA at #18 and Idzik will draft the BPA.
Sorry about that, I'm not a frequent visitor to the draft board, I completely agree then there will be a bunch of other talent that will be available at 18, what are your thoughts on Dee Ford?
I'm assuming you haven't watched much tape on latimer There isn't much flaw to his game. Ran extremely well at his pro day
Matt Miller @nfldraftscout Apr 2 My WR rankings: Watkins, Evans, Beckham, Cooks, Adams, Latimer, Lee, Landry, Benjamin. Matt Miller @nfldraftscout Mar 30 Cody Latimer generating big buzz now that he's close to healthy. Lot of teams bringing him in here soon. Late 1st/Early 2nd possible. played well against dennard and MSU. he's 6'3 and ran a 4.38 at his pro day talked to my friend a few days ago that also follows the draft a lot. said he had latimer as a fringe 1st rounder/early 2nd rounder and had him as his 3rd best WR definitely isn't a late round pick like you guys are implying, i don't even know how you could justify that after seeing his tape
