I'm not saying I wouldn't take Johnson on the Jets. I think he'd be a decent addition to this team. Yet I don't think they'll make him the workhorse back that he's used to being. He'll be in a timeshare and that's just not his game. He's used to being the feature guy, plain and simple. And if the Jets overpay for him then Ill have a real problem as they could have had Darren Sproles for $3.5 friggin mil a year which is a good deal. Sproles thrives in any role that he's given and always produces even on a limited number of touches.
The one thing I like about Johnson is his injury history,He has played 95-96 games and only missed one game and it wasn't because of an injury. He is def durable
Chris Johnson with Lendale White was pretty damn solid. Don't see why we couldn't have Chris Johnson with Chris Ivory.
I understand what you're saying, but it could have had to do with Idzik not wanting to give out a pick and a certain contract. We may be able to agree on that same contract without having to forfeit a pick as well.
Probably no more than a 6th or 7th round pick. The Titans would have taken anything rather than just cut him.
It sure was until White ate his way out of the league. I really want to hope you're right. I think it could be a good combo. I want to see Ivory do it for an entire 16 game season, 12-15 carries a game type of back. Then have CJ do 12-15 carries a game too. Yet I honestly have my reservations about how much CJ has left in the tank. I hope I'm wrong.
Could be. The only other thing I have to go on is that if we were actually close, he must be near to agreeing to what Idzik wants. Most only needed a cursory call for Idzik to know they weren't close to agreeing to what he'd want to pay them. We'll see though, I think he'll be signed to whatever team he ends with by Monday evening.
I just want at least two playmakers that can change the momentum of a game in a flash. I dont recall us having one of those since like Leon Washington.
The problem with Sproles he never been even close to a lot of carries back. So if Ivory went down we would be in trouble with Sproles.
At the right price CJ2K is absolutely a good pick up. As others have mentioned, we never truly had a chance to see our version of thunder and lightning last year due to the Mike Goodsen debacles. I was plesently surprised with Bila Powell and like him as a third down back. It's never a bad thing to have a stable of quality backs when you are a run first team, the Jets are. Keep in mind the injury issues Ivory has and the style he runs. Again, this needs to make financial sense. Short term deal 3-5 base.
True, but I'd still rather take Sproles for all he gives you as a receiver, blocker and runner over CJ if I was choosing between the two today. The guy is lightning in a bottle every time he touches the ball. As you can tell, I'm not that sold on CJ anymore.
sproles only had 604 receiving yards last year and is going to be 31 starting next year he's on the down tick
Only? He's not an every down player so 600+ yards out of the backfield is pretty damn good. He's shown zero signs of slowing down. Chris Johnson has shown clear signs of decline. He's young enough to rebound yet that's a big question mark. Based off their most recent performance on the field Sproles is more of a sure thing than CJ. I think Sproles has 3 more years at this level before he slows down.
