Well, on the main point we in effect agree, so that's good. That leaves two points: 1. I don't know and you don't what Revis might have signed for with the Jets. Since no offer was made and rejected, we have no idea. Just because that's what he got from TB, btw with no money or out years of the contract guaranteed, I don't agree at all that $16mil was his absolute floor. But that's not the main point. The main point is IF the Jets had entered last year with Revis, it likely would have been with a new contract. 2. I also disagree this time last year it was a done deal Cro would be cut. Depending on a number of variables he could have had his deal redone. I don't recall a single person here or elsewhere predicting there was no way he would be on the team for 14. In fact even a few weeks ago some were expecting the Jets to bring him back even after he was cut. That thinking was widespread right until he was signed by Arizona. I highly doubt that the Jets picked Milliner because they were planning on entering 14 without Cromartie, no matter what happened in the interim.
No of course the Jets did not want to do without Revis in 2012, but they did because they had to. The way you're talking about trading Revis, it's like you're assuming they knew a top CB was going to be available at either 9 or 13. What would they have done if Milliner went at 5 to the Lions? Also, Idzik is clearly far less worried about PR than you're making it seem. He certainly wouldn't have spent the very first draft pick of his first ever GM job on a guy to sooth some whiny fans. He knows as long as the Jets win the fans will be fine. Coples didn't have to be moved from DE, he's a versatile player who would have been moved all over the defensive line just as he is now. Only people who don't understand defensive scheme insist on pigeon holing players into "DE" and "OLB" positions. Coples was a defensive tackle and defensive end in college, and never an outside speed rusher, nor is he now even though he's an "OLB" on the Jets. The defensive line with Wilk, Ellis, Snacks, and Coples was so bare that it warranted a 1st round pick because of need? Give me a break. Cutler was never leaving Chicago, and even in the tiny minuscule chance that someone could lure him away, you do realize the Jets had next to no cap space last year, let alone the $19 million it would have taken to sign him, be real. Also, Foles had just come off a rookie season in which he played in a total of like 1.5 games, and was under contract for 3 more years, so he was hardly an available "vet" QB. The more you talk the more it seems like you have no idea how the cap or the draft work.
The bolded part is a perfect example of how you are an obnoxious twit here. I didn't pigeonhole anyone. I referred to Rex saying Coples would play more standing up and not purely DE. He in fact was listed all last year (when he played) as an OLB. But.. where did I say he played exclusively as a linebacker? Your lecturing me is wasted, dippy. And the issue was not whether he HAD to be moved. Perhaps you don't recall Ryan talking about moving Coples. Ryan wanted to move him, and did. Your ignorance is also glaringly apparent in talking about Foles. He played in seven games, not 1 and a half, and started six, in 2012. That was enough to make him a more proven commodity in the NFL than someone coming out of college. I merely mentioned Cutler because I thought the Jets might at least try to get him. You have no reason whatsoevr to say at this time last year there was no way he was ever leaving Chicago. The more you talk it proves you don't know football.
No it isn't. Every team drafts based on a combination of who is available and need. To say Milliner was a top five pick on all experts' boards, then not he dropped to nine, means the teams above are all run by idiots? Well, conceding the first three or four teams picked players higher than fifth, limit it to teams five through eight. Still. ALL TEAMS consider need in their drafts.
There was not a snowballs chance in hell the Jets were going into 2013 with Revis on the team. Just because there were never formal offers doesn't mean there was not plenty of discussion on the topic. You really think it's a coincidence that the $16 million number (what Revis wanted) came out months before the actual trade? Idzik went into each and every trade negotiation knowing exactly what Revis was willing to accept, otherwise other teams would never have bothered negotiating with Idzik. Revis and his agent are smart people, they knew damn well the Jets could not afford to pay him what he wanted. It literally was not possible to pay Revis and field a team based on our cap situation in 2013, but Revis and his agent knew that there were teams out there who could and would. Idzik had no choice but to trade him, whether he wanted to or not. All of these people pissing about how Idzik is not willing to budge in negotiations weren't complaining last year when his steadfast approach ensured a 1st round pick in 2013 instead of 2014. The only reason people thought Cro would come back is because we are not privy to the team doctor's notes on Cro. Clearly, they must have dictated guaranteeing him money was too risky of a move. Of course the Jets did not pick Milliner because they were planning to enter 2014 without Cro, but once they picked him it gave them that luxury. The funny thing about your Big Lebowski reference and your avatar is that you are far and away the most like Walter. Sure, his lack of awareness and blind insistence of obviously bad choices in situations make him hilarious as a character, but as a real person he'd be a total dick.
Not every team drafts BPA, or is prepared to. It is ideal for rebuilding teams, and not picking BPA does not mean the team is run by idiots. This particular team does, however, happen to be run by a GM who picks BPA at this point.
Heh. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...626402-how-will-quinton-coples-fare-as-an-olb As far back as the scouting combine in February, Rex Ryan started dropping hints about Quinton Coples becoming more of an edge player. He'll be on the edge, all right. Coples, used mostly as an interior lineman as a rookie, will be moved to 3-4 outside linebacker, according to a league source. The article also notes that Coples played standing up a significant amount of the time toward the end of 2012. Are you a new Jet fan? Now I know that article may refer back to before the draft, but is technically after last year's draft. We talked here about Coples moving before the draft.
Idzik vs the Gang Green Forum GMs - who wins? http://www.ganggreennation.com/2014/4/3/5568328/john-idzik-versus-the-fan-gm
Idzik may not have the best instincts of any GM out there, but I will say this. He does thing's HIS way. People in this town are going to whine and pray for his head, but he is eternally vigilant. We haven't had that in a while.
Let's get serious about the draft. This is a very deep one. How about trading the Jets #1 to Cleveland or Houston? Going lower with multiple picks in the second or third round would bring some excellent players and depth. I don't know the chart for dealing draft choices but moving down would still net a top receiver and address many team needs.
What? Are you trying to say Tyler Eifert is not a tight end who plays on offense, and catches passes to gain yards and score touchdowns? I genuinely don't know what you mean...
OK, so you sign a good wide receiver and a big target like Decker. A different kind of player than DeSean Jackson. A smaller receiver but with great speed and proven ability as a playmaker. Whose the better player then. I guess most of us would choose Jackson over Decker. So would most of the NFL. The price the Skins paid wasn't prohibitive. Only 16 mil guaranteed over two seasons only. Much cheaper than the price tag for Tone. Could we have afforded both of them. Probably yes and it would have been a great upgrade on offense in terms of skill positions. But what about all of the red flags on Jackson. Esp only a year after the Aaron Hernandez debacle. And his rep as a me first player. Plus can you get a good Wr cheaper. And whose the better fit on the Jets. A tall receiver with proven red zone skills. Or a home run guy like DeSean. When you have a chance to sign an exceptional talent like a Jackson do you spend a lot even if you've already committed big money on the same position. The answer is Yes. But not this guy.
I just have one... well a few question. Is paying market price "spending wildly or overpaying"? Its funny how Idzik supporters use generalizations such as these to argue their point. I understand that the GM has a number in his head that he values a player at. In my opinion if his internal value don't match up to the market value then he will lose therefore the Jets will lose. I have also looked at the current roster and I can't really complain about anything, there is a lot of good talent on the team. My only concern there, is that a lot of that talent can't stay healthy. Ras-I Dowling could be a good option to start along side Milliner but he is a question mark health wise and has been ever sense H.S.. I also noticed that Aaron Berry is still on the roster he could also play the 1 or 2 cb position, if he could make it out of training camp. I'm thinking by mid season this team could look like a walking mash unit again this year with all the "injury prone" players on this roster. Mangold and Freguson aren't getting any younger (both age 30) how much longer can they play at the high level we have grown accustomed to? Colon is not a long term option either. So we need to be thinking about rebuilding the offensive line. Can the coming class of rookies improve the offense? All and all I think we're decent on defense, except for at OLB. The Offense needs a lot of attention, so I can see both sides of the argument. Though I believe the The Jets could have and should have improved the team a little more through top tier free agent talent (paying market value or below) it's not the end of the world that they didn't. I may might be the end of Rex Ryan's tenure as Head Coach but who cares about that?
