that was the best move we could have made, it made no sense to overpay for a decent player like that.

Have to agree here. Cro showed his worth when Revis went down. He had arguably his best year of his career, but last year he was downright miserable. Many of our secondary problems were because he was getting burned left and right.

Agree here with both of you. I meant just losing him was rough. Not that our front office made a bad move. I just wish we could have hung on to him.

Yep, LLandry and Bell were one year rentals as the Jets bought time for the 2012 draftees to either step up or see new 2014 draftees. DLandry was a rental continuation, although the Jets gave him a 2 year deal because they still didn't know enough about the late round draftees at the time they signed DLandry. Giving DLandry a 2 year deal removed pressure to draft another safety in 2013. Now they're likely to have to bite on a couple in the rich draft pool this year.

It was a disaster...maybe it would have been difeerent if they were replaced with the same quality players. Two of our comp picks are because we didn't.

and yet we were better in 2013 than 2012.

In the past we built from the back forward, now we are building from the front back.m we have a top 3 DL in this league that is going to be getting better and better. That masks a lot of deficiencies in the secondary. Remember when the Giants won those 2 SBs? their secondary was mediocre at best but when Tuck, Osi, JPP, etc... are harassing the QB it made those secondaries look good.

I don't think it's a disaster at all. Allen has been making big strides and is being praised about by many many players and coaches.

Like said earlier, the majority of our secondary issues was at corner. If Cro was playing at a high level, we wouldn't have had so many issues, but because he was pure garbage and we had a rookie on the other side who had been benched numerous times, it gets pretty hard for any safety in the NFL to make plays.

i guess its somewhat ole fashioned but many a football purists say the best way to build a winning program is to start in the trenches - both offensive and defensive lines. of course it helps that the stars are aligned ur way and u also have a QB!

This is 100% accurate. Football teams are built in the trenches.

If you have no offensive line, you can have the biggest baddest QB around, but he will be on his ass 9 times out of 10. If you have no defensive line, your secondary could be stacked, but a good QB will pick them apart with no pass rush.

What? We were better? Did you watch the games? You who blames every bad play the Jets made on Cromartie now say we were better?

Yeah, and guess what, we did better. In 2012 we went 6-10 with a roster totally full of declining talent and bloated contracts. In 2013, we went 8-8 with a roster (not exactly full, but getting there) of young developing talent on small contracts. We were better.

We were better in 2013 than in 2012. We won 3 of our last 4 games by 10+ points. Before that we beat two of the best QB's in the game. It was an ugly season in some ways but there's no question the 2013 Jets were a better team than the squad that preceded them. Even if you didn't have the facts above to support the thesis you had the 2 game differential in wins.

Graham only scored on Jarrett the other safety. After that Allen locked up pretty good. Gronk didnt score on us from what i remember i was at the game and Brady was forcing it to him like he always does with his whoever he chooses at the moment. Gronk was contained for the most part catching small dump passes . Allen is promising i didnt say hes the best hes not even at his own best yet but to say hes not good is ignorant

Report: Jets "very intrigued" by Kelvin Benjamin http://wp.me/p14QSB-9s7L

This would absolutely be the worst option to WASTE a first round pick on. I'm a big FSU fan and I watched him all season and apart from the TD to win the National Title isn't impressive at all.
I don't know why he's considered 1st round talent but imo he's not. Idzik may have doubters, but there's no way he'd be this dumb.

I'm not sure if "Rex really likes his two SS's" or if it's that he's maximizing that available talent since we haven't had a true free safety since Rhodes. Did the two strong safety look dominate the Raven defensive backfield or did he use the traditional safety mix because he had talent at both natural positions. A choice made out of availability isn't the same as one made out of desire.
