I'm not gonna repeat the same thing that has been said numerous times before this post. The problem here is that you lack any understanding of what we are saying. You are on one mindset and nothing will go about changing that mindset, which makes it ignorant to argue with you any longer. If you honestly can't figure out why Reed started like he did, then that's for you to research. If you don't want to look at both sides of the coin, then you will have a hard time understanding a majority of things in the NFL. I notice this with you and a lot of these members on here that sit around bashing every single move or person on this team. I get it, you and others are struggling with the fact that we haven't won a super bowl in so long, but my god, do you really have to be this oblivious to things? How many times does it need to be stated that we are building a team for years to come, not just one year? How many times does it need to be stated that Idzik is building through the draft and will not be spending millions upon millions of dollars on big time free agent "names"? How many times does it need to be stated that there is still a ton of free agency left where bargain players who will make an impact can be had for pennies? You can not like it all you want, but don't sit here and whine like a baby girl. Stop shitting on every move, stop shitting on every player, and stop playing this game like you know we, who see the glass half full, will fail. We are all rooting for the same Damn team. Show it. Stop creating a sense of hope for failure. Grow up man.
The craziest thing is a lot of these guys have been on the board for YEARS, like this guy, he joined over a decade ago.
I wish there was a dislike button . Antonio Allen is very good. He locked down Gronk and jimmy graham and the other TE's we played against before we got Ed Reed. Notice guarding TE's wasn't our issue at all last year? He also had two punt blocks. I was at the jets n pats game if it weren't for that pick 6 we would be a 7-9 team and we'd all be debating about our new head coach right now. Just sayin
Its gonna be a whole thing with our defense for the next two years, Idzik has to do the best he can to retain several players. Next year's offseason is gonna be a ball if several players pan out. Snacks needs to be locked up ASAP, Davis and Allen are two players who can potentially be extended with a year left on their deals for an average amount (or not), Coples will probably warrant a 5th year option for a LB, and speaking of LB harris's deal is up so that other ILB position will need to be addressed. theres ALOT to think about for the future, makes me understand Idzik's hesitance to not sign big deals that he doesn't think will be good for the team down the road, it may get in the way of locking up our own even if it won't for this season.
You dont make very much sense. Coaching hard for his job or not, if Allen is clearly the better, it shouldnt matter what player Rex had a boner for came here. Allen isn't that good and Reed was brought in because he was a temporary "upgrade". Mentoring doesnt mean giving up more then half your playing time, which is what he did. Go check the numbers clown.
Are you blind? This team has had issues covering tight ends for YEARS. Tony Gonzalez singlehandedly abused this team last year. Same with Gronk and Graham. Go check the numbers. The guy makes one impact play the entire year and people think he is a great player....Unbelievable
The problem with your argument is that no one is claiming Allen is a star. No one has said once that Allen is a pro bowl safety. This whole thing started because of a post I made that said Allen was "making strides" and is becoming someone more than we thought he would. I NEVER said he was the guy right now. There was the word "think" in that post and "progressing" in that post. Reed is a first ballot hall of famer. He may be past his prime, but he still is one of the best safeties to ever live. I fully expected him to come in and beat a young upcoming safety. You're missing the point.
You just don't understand how a situation can be fluid. Antonio Allen was in his second year of not only learning a totally new position, learning a totally new complex defensive scheme. The improvements he was making indicate what he can be, not what he is. Also, just because the pick six is the only play you know of doesn't mean it's the only play he made. He also had some amazingly athletic passes defensed over Gronkowski and Graham. Graham is the best TE to have ever played, at least at what he does, so just because he put up some numbers over a 2nd year positional convert doesn't mean anything. Stop talking numbers, and re-watch the games if you really want to have this conversation. Reed was the best safety to ever play the game, period. He also played a different position than Allen. When Dawan Landry and Antonio Allen were in the game, both before and during Reed's time here, Ryan was playing them the way he usually plays two strong safeties, except he gave Allen man to man assignments with TEs more. When Reed played, he played his over-the-top ball hawking free safety position that he played for years with immense success in Baltimore. Reed at FS gave Rex some safety (no pun intended) because he plays at the very back end, intelligently assisting in the passing game not in man coverage but in that he would slide over one way or the other to help the CBs on deep passes. Reed's athleticism is declining, but his experience and instinct still helped him make a few plays. Antonio Allen is going into his third year, and the improvements he has shown make people have reasonable hope for what he can be with what is only his second offseason training as a safety. No one is saying he is going to be an all pro this year. I've watched all the games last year multiple times, and would be happy to discuss specific plays and the way the rotation worked. As soon as you go back and watch them again, let me know.
No, Allen is an up and comer but I don't feel that he's ready for a starting safety gig, he struggles in zone coverage and is out of position at times. I see Bush and Landry starting with Allen playing a ton of Nickel package.
For the record, I disagree but respect the opinion. Why do you think Bush will be starting over Allen?
Bush has much more experience playing the actual safety position and looking back at games from last year Bush was playing a lot of the deep half of the field when he was in while Allen was at or near the LoS a lot of the time. I never thought Allen would ever transition from his Spur LB role to a starting FS gig. We might even have a duo of Bush and Allen starting if Allen can beat out Landry which I'm sure he can. I see Allen's ceiling as a TJ Ward type of SS, he will shine playing the intermediate zones and playing run support but will struggle somewhat if you ask him to sit deep and read/react.
Even though Allen started over Bush last year? Rex really likes his two SS's, so unless we draft one I think Allen and Landry will get more of the playing time. Rex has always used a safety rotation of 3 guys, I'd love to draft Clinton-Dix at FS and have Allen phase out Landry by the end of the season.
We gave up a lot of deep balls with those 2 back there, this team desperately needs a true FS that can make plays on the deep ball especially with the young corners we have. You're right though Rex loves having safeties that can lay a hit, Bush is not that type of safety. If the draft comes around and Dix is still around at picks 12-14 I would not be opposed to trading up and nabbing him. Dix and Allen are just what the doctor ordered at safety but I do not want Allen or Landry playing the centerfielder for this team.
Everybody here loves to blame the whole secondary mess last year on Cromartie but losing both Landry and Bell was a disaster.
I would never give Landry a long term deal though and Bell was already long in the tubes, I'm sure everyone knew that was going to be a 1 year duo.
Not true. Cro's play deteriorated immensely, and Bell was certainly no better than Dawan Landry. LaRon was a 1 year rental, there's no way we could afford him once he proved he could stay healthy.
I love Laron's style of play but just can't give a guy with his injury history a long term deal unfortunately.
