Is he being penny wise and pound foolish? "In the end, general manager John Idzik preferred a $3 million cornerback with major durability issues over a $3.5 million corner (Antonio Cromartie) who never has missed a game in his career due to injury and already is comfortable in Rex Ryan's system. On the surface, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense." http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-jets/post/_/id/37261/dimitri-patterson-signing-raises-questions
Explain what laws are broken that would justify a civil claim if you were fired. You brought it up so justify the claim.
I have no idea if DJax is a good signing, it could work out it could be a disaster, time will tell. I'm sick of the whiners that we haven't spent wildly this offseason when it has been proven over and over, including by Jets that just never leads to success. No Jets have not been a model organization, the Skins certainly haven't been. I want the Jets to model themselves after winning organizations which is the track they are on. Whether or not that leads to success is unknown at this point. Idzik may turn out to be horrible or great or in between but the draft will determine that, not this FA period. This is exactly how Seattle was built into the powerhouse they are now. I was torn on DJax cause his talent fits what Jets need but I certainly can't get on Idzik for not bringing in that type of attitude into a very young lockerroom with a young unproven QB.
Furthermore, D-Jax seemed tunnel visioned in his pursuit of a new team. Seems pretty obvious the guy wanted to stay in the NFC East so he could play his old team twice a year.
Actually someone posted a list of the Seattle starters and other key players who went there in FA, so I don't know what you are talking about there. There's no rule that says you have to have tons of cap space unused in FA in order to have a great draft.
Are you trying to tell me Seattle wasn't built through the draft? Cause that would just be silly. There is also no rule that's says you have to spend wildly in FA, in fact just the opposite.
They got incredibly lucky in the draft, getting Wilson in the 3rd and Sherman in the 6th (and other good players late as well). Without those two guys, they're a below-average team. The chances of the Jets (or anyone else) having that type of success with picks is slim-to-none.
Unless an employer has previously advised that involvement in some social arrangement, where the involvement itself is not illegal (since involvement in illegal activity implicitly violates company policy), then the employee has no prior notice that such involvement would violate company policy and be a basis for termination. Standing alone, this would be a wrongful termination under company policy. The question then becomes if a wrongful termination claim can be pursued under applicable federal, state or local law. If the employee was also a member of a protected class, then such employee could argue that such a policy would have a disparate impact on the class he belonged to, since in Jackson's case, him being black, a "no friends with members of the Crips!" policy would have a disparate impact on his class. Of course there are questions about how the termination adversely effected Jackson, since he immediately went to another team. But at a lower number, no? And then the way the Eagles handled it arguably and adversely affected Jackson's reputation, which in turn affected his market value. It's not a great case, but I wouldn't say he has none.
You seem to be assuming that ipso facto signing Jackson to a similar contract would be spending wildly in FA. I don't think that is so. You are not saying Seattle has not signed free agents, are you?
Was it luck or just good scouting? Maybe their front office did their due diligence and while luck did play a role, maybe they saw the talent also. We had a GM for years who just spent money wildly and without merit. Yes, we attended two afc championships, but what after that? A cap hell with no talent. That's what we were left with.
So annoying, I thought he was done with all that garbage? And now Mehta says he gets ANOTHER 4 game suspension? What a shame, he had a lot of potential, would've loved to see him play more..... perhaps it's time to move on, though. I wouldn't mind Chris Johnson to complement Ivory.
They didn't get incredibly lucky, they drafted well just like just about every other successful team in NFL history.
The more I think about Johnson the more I think he would dominate carries though. Not sure I'd want to bury carries for Ivory like that and Powell was really showing progress last season
There were obviously a ton of concerns with Jackson, concerns that you or I don't know enough about to know if giving him a big contract is a smart decision. Of course the Hawks have signed FAs just like we have and every other team. They are primarily built through the draft though, that isn't debate able.
They would split. Whether it is 50/50 or 70/30, I have no idea, but I am almost positive they would split. You don't go out and trade a draft pick for Ivory and then hide him behind another back. It may not be so bad having him learn behind Chris Johnson. It is obvious Chris Johnson is a workhorse who knows how to stay healthy in this league. Not to mention, he has close to 8,000 yards in 6 seasons.
